Lonewolf~ how about having wheelchair high small planters, so you garden from your chair, when your shoulder allows you to? if you get them I'll pop round and soil/ plant them up for you, to keep on top of.
Thank you:A It's an excellent idea! We're off on our hols in a fortnight, so nothing will happen til we're back, but then I really need Mr LW to decide a) if he's going to get the patio re-laid (it's currently very uneven, and getting worse) and b) if he's going to replace and/or relocate the increasingly dilapidated shed - there was talk a couple of years back of getting a sauna, but we don't have the space indoors, so were thinking of putting a sauna room where the shed is now (right opposite the back door) and relocating the shed. Tbh, it got put on a back burner because I'm not at all keen on having workmen in the place (I get really scared with strange men here if Mr LW's not here) - same reason the kitchen hasn't been refitted (we've been talking about that for at least 5 years!)

Once the holiday's done, we must really decide what we're going to do, and get it organised - Kazw I'll be glad of help when the time comes, :A and advice, too, as I haven't actively gardened for an age, and have forgotten most of what I knew!

My legs are still awol, so another charriot day *sigh* I have put the W/M on and DH will hang it out. I am going too perch on my stool and drive my food processor, so some goodies for the liberated cake tins that I decluttered yesterday.

Lamewolf, I love to garden and I refuse to let all my medical problems get in the way of anything I want to do. I got all my flower beds raised and I have containers everywhere. I grow veggies in among my flowers and in among the soft fruit, I even grow tumbling Tom tomato's in hanging baskets. It has taken much scrimping and a lot of up-cycling to get here but its worth doing. Likewise indoors, my kids (all growed up now) have given me gadgets and gizmo's for christmas and birthdays, so that I can still bake, cook, sew, and generally still get pleasure out of all the things that I love to do. For my birthday they clubed together and bought me a Kindle because I was struggling to hold a book for too long, truly liberating:T

DH has been busy out in the garden this morning and I have just swished and swiped the things I can reach from my charriot, so we are staying on track quite nicely.

Have a lovely day everyone and I hope the sun is shining where you are.

Bossymoo a tree would be lovely, I have a large eucalyptus tree stump in my garden which I planted a Rambling Rector rose and a clematis up in memory of my late hubby, its a glorious sight now.

All the washing is done and in off the line, just needs sorting and the HHI for work/school stuff. Chickens cooked and kitchen's clean again including wiping cupboard doors which was still on my to do list, just enjoying a cappucinno before I go and do the last few bits I need before getting ready for work.

Thanks Hex but I'm possibly in a position to sell directly to a builder (known to my Aunty) without marketing by Estate Agents. The builder owns several properties in the area and my house needs work done to it which he will do.
I *think* Hex was suggesting you get the EAs around to see what THEY would market your house for; average their valuations thus giving you, and the builder, an idea of market value;)

I am about to iron again - did ALL the washing Friday night and yesterday so it all had to be dried in shifts :rotfl:

  • Hi everyone, Its amazing how cheerful we all feel when the sun comes out. I am fairly tidy everywhere here, but did not do the sofa, so will do that today, and thats it. Im not too good with flowers, but i do know a bit about veggies JoJo I have an allotment and the lady next to me uses beer, i swear I have never seen so many slugs - im sure they come for miles to join the party (could be wrong mind), I use garlic essential oil in the watering can, they hate garlic, but you have to be careful, cause one bit on your clothes and you have to practically burn them, also salt, they hate salt, but not sure what that would do to your plants, you can also buy organic, kiddie, bird etc friendly slug pellets, which work, plus also copper rings, that gives them a shock, so they don't cross it, you can buy it in tape form, good luck with whatever you do, i hate the little bleeders.
Bossymoo What a lovely thought. I planted a mini apple tree about three years ago and its brimming with fruit, its only about 7ft and will not get much bigger, not single stem mind. Hope everyone enjoys the sun.

Been to the tip. Dry cleaner was shut, so need to remember to go on Wednesday and hope they can get it done quickly.

Couldn't find any 2'6" mattress covers, duvets or fitted sheets, but did get duvet covers reduced by 75% (apparently.... Not sure who would have paid the original price...). Friends are coming for tea, so I need to clear up downstairs, mow the back and locate something to feed them...

Need to get moving, so will clear the table while heating up soup for lunch.

Currently drowning billions of little leopard slugs. i have never seen so many in my whole life.

Figured, as they are attracted to beer, that a sprinkle of yeast granules in some warm water with the crusty bits from the sugar jar would be a cheaper way of luring the little gits in to their doom.

Did the yeast work? I need to start operation slug control

Ooh hex, are you green fingered?

I am trying to choose a suitable tree, to plant in memory of my husband. It needs to be small, no more than 8-10ft tall, preferably a single stem, with some interest. I had thought a hazel, as he liked nuts, but I think they are multi stemmed? Wasn't bothered for more fruit, we have an apple tree that is prolific and tbh it's a bit too much fruit lol.

We did want to "decorate" so good sturdy branches, that could stand up to children hanging twirls and windsocks from it.

It's a sunny spot and I have a hebe there that is the only thing that's survived these last two winters, so not too bad soil...

    Any suggestions would be welcome!

I would go for an almond tree, lovely scented flowers, pleasant shaped leaves and you get nuts. We planted one last year and got 75 nuts in it's first year.

Mainly did gardening yesterday too so a bit achy today, especially in the wrists. Hex DS3 has found something else to be allergic to after being at the park yesterday, hoping it was only heat rash but not sure.

I've stripped and washed our bed linen and dusted DS2's room.

Off to the strawberry patch now and later I need to dust DS1's room and do a bit of ironing oh and list some bits on ebay once my camera has charged up.

Got all my 2'6" bedding and mattress covers from John Lewis - joys of online shopping!

OK, all this talk of mowing.....off for a couple of hours outside, serious weeding and mowing required.

    Moam

hello Don'tknowanymore, new thread usually starts Sunday evening. If you are itching to get started then ask people to join you in a half hour challenge (HHC). It hurts less when other people join in....

Dusty - poor DS3, hope it is just heat rash. The anti-his worked for me happily.

We collected some sacks of allegedley well rotted horse manure on the way back from the farm shop. One leaked in my car and all over me which was not good. Too ripe to use so I have layered it up with the green kitchen waste and wet sawdust moutain in the hope of making a perfect compost recipe. Turned the other bins in the hope I will have some fit to use for the peas/beans/courgettes in a few weeks. Turned, hoed and raked a quarter of the veg plot which is a start. Rather sore now so back inside.

Lamb in the oven for later, and I just put a carrot cake in too. Boys want yucky wheetabix chocolate brownies so I may as well do those whilst the oven is on. WM on for the third time!
