im having ivory because im very pale so when i tried white on i was an invisible ghost
(and hence the name and the pic i dont think the virginity question really comes up for me lol)The only people I have to answer to are my beautiful babies aged 8 and 50 -
I agree, I wore a pale cream/ivory because white is too harsh against my pale skin, and I'd have looked awful. Also some people say white dresses make you look fatter!A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0

My grandma says this too but she's not joking...
My dress looks white to me, but apparently it's pale ivory.0 -
I think most people just go with what suits their skin tone.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

I had never thought of it until this thread.
If I wore white I would look washed out, fat and just eughhhhhhh not a good look for my wedding day:rotfl:Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -
White is a modern thing. Used to just be a new or best dress for the marriage. Just like pink used to be for boys & blue for girls and all babies wore dresses.Truth always poses doubts & questions. First wedding i wore a edwardian wedding dress (been a fancy dress at the time) couldn't afford anything and this was being loaned to be either free or i think i might have had to pay for it to be dry cleaned. It was more cream than white i think due to age and wear and tear over the years.
This time round i have a custom made dress, in purple(dark grape) as it is my favourite colour (one of) and it goes with my skin tone.
I did say i wouldn't wear white as my 17 year old son will be at the wedding and as a joke i said it would be obvious that i wasn't the virgin bride. So although not taken seriously i guess i also choose out of tradition.0 -
Hi, I think this can definatly be a generation thing. I got married in March and wore a cream wedding dress as it was the dress I loved the most. However my nan when first told that I was getting married at a registry office advised that I should just wear a nice trouser suit and nobody should wear a hat as it was only a registry do! Her ideal was a church wedding, white virginal bride. As the last of her grand daughters and the only one not to have children before getting married (Nothing wrong with that) I'm not sure why she had an issue! My mum on the other hand, never mentioned not wearing white or not wearing a dress and the thought never crossed my mind till my nan pointed it out! I think it should always been about the bride, for all anyone knows someon getting married in red could be a virgin bride these days!0
