White dress and virginity...

Options
Another thread got me thinking.. do you think these days women tend to wear ivory/off white etc instead of pure white, due to the fact most women aren't virgins when they marry now?

Or do you think its just because of the fashion of pure white not being 'in'?

Was just wondering, personally I'm wearing diamond white because I don't like the brightness of perfect white.

What is your reasoning for wearing the colour your dress is? :)

40 years ago this year as a 17yr old bride I wore white .
I was a virgin to my husband 'tho not before the ceremony ;)
I think todays choices are indeed fashion and not dictated by conscience.
    As they should be !
We celebrate 40yrs in July ,white, blue red who cares love and respect are what makes a marriage the wedding is just the beginning

I got married in burnt orange, mostly because I'd already ordered that colour silk dupion for my bridesmaids dresses for my potential first wedding. The first wedding got cancelled, but when I eventually got married I had my dress made by the original couturier and we used the material that she had in stock from my earlier order.

Saved a bob or two and probably looked fairly unique :D

I think it is something people consider. I still remember how hurt I felt when I moved in with my OH and my mum told me - very seriously - that now I wouldn't be able to wear white when I got married. And my mum's only in her forties - not exactly an older generation.

I'm just curious as to peoples reasonings :)

I'm wearing diamond white as I want to still be traditional, wouldn't feel like a 'bride' in anything but white, but like I said, bright white isn't for me.

    Lovely stories! xx

My grandma jokes with me that I shouldn't wear white because I'm not a virgin!

What's 'diamond white' compared to 'bright white'?

I wore a green dress from Debenhams, mainly cos it wasn't a massive wedding as I'm not into all that, my sister in law wore white for her wedding in March ( her third wedding and she has 2 kids !) lol

I see my dress as white although apparently it's ivory - it is a very pale white ivory rather than they yellowy ones. I'm most certainly not a virgin :rotfl:. But I chose my dress because it is beautiful and the colour complements my skin colour, making me look amazing :) Cannot wait to wear it!

And the idea of not wearing white because I'm not a virgin never entered my head until reading this thread!! (And no-one was so blunt/rude as to dare to suggest I couldn't!)

I think most people just go with what suits their skin tone. I was an older first time bride and wore white because i just loved the dress and it suited me a treat.

Yep more of a colour that suited me kind of thing to be honest. I did try on a few white dresses and I looked like a corpse in most - not the look I was aiming for somehow :rotfl:The dress I went for in the end is more of a champagne colour. And definitely not a virgin regardless haha
