Called around 9 times - cant even get to the IVR - I have a 5 week old, this is a first claim would it be worth just waiting until after the 31st?

    *update*

Not even getting to the IVR now - just engaged
  • on phone for hours yesterday and this morning for 45 mins get long speed about options then voice says I will be transferred to advisor and then beeps and goes deadIm going crazy here . Can't even get in a queue to be answered ?have started over and listened to speed over 100 times 30 th and 31st July

We are trying to gauge whether the phone number for renewing tax credits - 0345 300 3900 - has been experiencing high demand resulting in delays or people just not able to get through.

Please let us know what your experiences this time around (ie JULY 2012) have been like, by posting below.

Also a quick tip - HMRC tells us the quietest time to try is usually in mid-afternoon

I am getting exactly the same too! I have been trying for THREE days now. Keep getting the busy tone or i'm being disconnected!

I previously wrote them TWO letters as I was having trouble calling them a few months ago and they STILL haven't got back to me with any information.

I have looked high and low for any type of email address, somewhere I can complain, or any way i can possibly get in contact with them. I'm going MAD!

As our child was so young, and as first time parents struggling with sorting out our changes and LHA/Maternity benifit, which all went wrong, I thought that it would be better to leave it until AFTER the 31st, not wanting to 'clog up' the system, however the advisor at our local council said I MUST do it by the 3st - cue the last three days solidly calling- about two weeks ago they said a pack would be sent to me (or first pack) still not received that. got a feeling this is my fault for not getting it sorted out sooner.
  • Yes, I have been trying to get through for weeks, what a nightmare! I didn't just want to post the forms as I had a couple of questions relevant to the renewal, but was forced to post nevertheless as the helpline was always engaged. This morning I was given another number though, this one:
    01355359007
and managed to get through straightaway. This number is for people living outside of the UK and not every adviser is prepared to take the call but most of them do and are very helpful. Hope this helps!
  • I posted this somewhere else on here, but will copy it here too as might help someone.

I called Saturday 21st at around 1pm and got straight through.

I thought that was cutting it fine tbh - I really don't understand why people leave it until the very last minute.

I actually renewed in April, but the tax credit people seem incapable of inputting the amounts correctly. The amounts on the latest form bore no relation to the figures I had actually provided. This is now the third incorrect form I have received.

I called yet again to try and get it sorted. I spent 30 minutes trying to get through. The phone cut out three times. In the end I gave up. I shall try again next week.

Have also had change to circustances that using the website has advised me to call them on the "Help Line", I have been trying for 2 weeks on and off with the usual talk then cut off. Can't call in the day because I work suppose this is now a disadvantage.

HAS ANYONE GOT THROUGH TODAY !!!! I am now on my third hour of trying and lost count of how many attempts?

Just another word of advise - if you ave trouble getting through at home try from your local enquiry centre - many now located within town halls/libraries/civic centres etc.

[linky deleted] type enquiry centre into the search box and first thing that comes up is a link to the find enquiry centre tool. Enter your town and it will show your local enquiry centre and also has a link to the spreadsheet of opening days and times. All enquiry centres have phones with speed dials through to the main contact centres including tax credits and calls are free. Go to enquiry centre with your National Insurance number and income details and you can usually renew over the phone. Only works if you can get in during the day of course but might help some.

    +1

Walked in to the Enquiry Centre in Dunfermline this morning and walked out five minutes later job done.

    Brilliant.
