  • Just called Halifax and asked for my exit fee charges to be refunded. I was told that the charge of £115 was correct and endorsed by the FSA. I exited my mortgage in FEB '07. I think I may have been fobbed off?

What makes you think that they are incorrect?
  • Hi there - I noticed that the column reading 'now' states a Zero value for Northern Rock. They have just written to me saying that they want 250 to exit my current mortgage and move to the Nationwide BS.

Should I pay and reclaim or refuse to pay on the grounds of the FSA ruling on MEAF. I think that i should ask them to justify the costs....

    Help appreciated.

    Thanks
  • This is probably the fee that your contract says Blackspeech. The £0 now is for new Northern Rock customers. You could ask for a justifation of costs too though :)

  • :T Natwest should have added in a column call and you can have an answer straight away

I was going to write the letter but as my copying and pasting was useless I decided to call the Abbey x 2 mortgages and then the Natwest, Abbey said "no problem we'll send you 2 claim forms", and Natwest where great it took 3 1/2 minutes!!!!!!!!!!!! great for £140.00, the lady said "just let me check your mortgage, yes you paid £225.00 and it should have been £85.00 whats the name of your bank/sort code and account number ?£140.00 will in your account within 10 days"

    :j
a please & thank you is all it takes
  • Just to let you know that your letter did not work at all for me in getting £150 fees back from Standard Life -

Basically they wrote back saying that the fee £150 fee wasn't in the contract - but when I was thinking of switching .. I asked them for a quote .. and they claim in the new quote they said there was a £150 fee .. so I was now aware of it when I did switch to RBS.

Well at least I have a number to ring now and discuss further / negotiate.

I'll let you know if they are still digging their heels in.

I don't see why you think you've got any basis to discuss or negotiate, SilverFox. If you chose to switch on the basis of an offer which included a £150 MEAF, then that's the amount you are contracted to pay and that's the amount it's reasonable and fair to pay as well.

The costs are irrelevant. If your offer said £250, £250 is what you should pay according to both the FSA ruling and common sense fairness.
  • The Alliance & Leicester fee in 1982 was £85 - I've been told by a lady called Jenny that I'm not entitled to anything, but will pass my request on to the appropriate people
