Hi
Does the same rules apply to Bank of Ireland?
If so could you put the details for Bank of Ireland on the table?
Cheers

Called A+L up and with in 2 weeks they kindly sent me a cheque for £220.
Was I happy when I open the post this morning? You bet I was.
Thanks MSE0 -
Abbey fee May 2005 £99.00, charged redemption fee of £225.00 in June 2007, following a phone call they are sending me a claim form, they obviously prolong the process with paperwork.
Halifax fee February 2004 £75.00 as shown in their mortgage booklet dated November 2003, charged redemption fee of £115.00 in May 2005, following a phone call told it probably won't be much, I'm expecting £40.00, after checking I'm told a refund of £75.00 is due and a cheque will follow in up to 3 weeks. I'm not complaining about taking 3 weeks to issue a cheque if they are being so generous.
Halifax's redemption fee of £125.00 in January 2002 in the table seems way to high, it was only £40 or £75 in February 2004.
I hope everybody who phones uses http://www.saynoto0870.com/ to find the local/freephone number and not the banks expensive 0845 or 0870 numbers, (just cut and paste the phone number in the table into the relevant box).0 -
I phoned Norwich & Peterborough about my MEF on Wednesday (0845 300 2511). When I took out the mortgage the fee was £55, 4 years later the fee had gone up, and I was charged £140. They said they'd send me the £85 difference, no quibbles. Were really nice about it all.
It arrived in the post Thursday.0 -
An update for the Lender Information table - Yorkshire BS mortgage exit fee in 1990 was £73.50.
I've just called the Yorkshire Building Society and have been advised I can reclaim £51.50! I was charged £125 by those naughty peeps. Thanks for th3e work you do Martin.0 -
Just for info, I am not trying to deter anyone in anyway! Tried to claim back my full Final repayment charge of £275.00p from Woolwich with regards to my recent redemption. With these guys it is very hit and miss whether you will be sent a refund or not, bearing mind I went for a full refund not a difference. Now my clients have had great success in obtaining Refunds, so I am not saying you won't, I am just stating worse case sincario! Woolwich atcually took me to court, and the Judge found that the charge was exempt of the MEAFS as Woolwich managed to convince her it was a charge for total credit not a mortgage exit fee, and it was not a penalty as there was no breach of contract! The judge also said that relying on the FSA's good practice guide was not enough in the court of law, as these are just guidelines not LAW of which the lenders have to abide by!! Strange I thought if you didn't abide by the FSA laws you were hit with a huge fine... Hey ho I have only lost one case out of 10 so can't complain and it only cost me £50.00p of which I have had far more back in return over the years.. Good Luck.0

Hi all. I've just registered to make an update about the A&L fees. I'm interested in clearing my mortgage just now and was not too happy about the £295 they are now charging. I seem to remember mine was £75 when I signed up in 1999.
So, I've dug out the original documentation and found a "Mortgage Account Service Charges" leaflet and thought I would update you with it. It states "Charges correct as at July 1999." but I can confirm that these still applied in December 1999 when I bought.
Anyway, the leaflet says "Redemption and sealing of Deeds £75", so I was right.
I'm assuming this is their "exit fee".0 -
Hi Babykitten
I'm guessing that you have switched products a number of times since 1999, and hence the £75 you are quoting is irrelevant.
The fee you are required to pay is the fee you agreed to when you last switched mortgage product - maybe 2 years ago if you have a 2 year fix or discount? That fee would be £295.0
