    I work for Barclaycard.

Officially they're moving to India to make the business "more streamline, efficient and cost effective" - un-officially they're moving because the budget given to Barclaycard from Barclays has decreased and they can't spend any money.

Thing is, months leading up to this we lost overtime, incentives, bonuses etc and now lose our jobs - Barclays made £9bn profit and Barclaycard made a 40% loss, but still made £2bn profit - so there is no good reason to move to India. The Union has slammed the move and said it's all about costs and not people and it's true , Barclays/Barclaycard were voted the worst bank to bank with and work for - I wonder why?!?!
  • yeah HSBC are in India, I dont mind outsourcing work to other countries but there are just short of 1 million people unemployed in Britain. in an ideal world these big banks should create jobs for the unemployed over here before outsourcing it.

the banks are not there to provide jobs but to make money for their shareholders...I was told by my bank that the only way to make money with a bank is to buy the shares....egg call centre is in the uk and is very helpful as is the co op bank.

Yep I agree Sash - I've recently moved to the Co op and without exception every call I've had with them has been really pleasant and professional. And I love the accent..
