The huge Indian population in Leicester is in fact a minority.

Although you don't take offence that your minority group constantly get's abused, it doesn't mean that other's shouldn't be offended.

These sorts of comments are more suited to The money saver's arms.

If you're taking Leicester in general then that may be correct....but it is fact that one side of the city centre white is the minority.

I've lived in or around the Leicester area for 21 of my 26 years....and this isn't my opinion, it is my experience.

Feel free to consult legislation if you really dislike my comments.

The issue with offshore call centres is nothing to do with race imho. The issue is companies trying to do customer service on the cheap, hiring staff on the cheap, doing the training on the cheap and doing the management on the cheap. it's not fair on the customers, and it's not fair on the employees.

If you have a problem for which there is no script, you've had it. I'd overpaid a closed account and wanted to find out how to get my money back, the operator had no idea what I meant or how to help. (And for the record, I'm a consultant specialising in communications!) And as for BT broadband -aaarrgh!

And remember it's not only the offshore call centres where you get bad service...poor recruitment + poor training +poor management = very poor customer service

I agree its not race but it is the work culture. take India for example(u guys who will jump at me -- I am Indian) In India the work culture isnt one of customer service it is about making the most for the company. its not the poor CS guys fault but it is the mindset of the management. Ofcourse that is now changing I believe...havent been there for 4.5 yrs now..

There wasnt too many companies offering credit cards & stuff and hence it was a sellers mkt you took what you got. and obvsly u got !!!!... i.e bad customer service n stuff. u go to a bank and the person will behave like its not your money that is keeping them going but they are doing a favour by keeping you money!!. This is because all banks were state owned until a hadnful of private banks came in and then slowly things are changing. but then customer service standards do not change fast .

Also how many indian(or for that matter any other developing nation) know the UK way of life. I did not know that until I came here. So how can one expect them to relate and servce UK customers.

I do a simple thing when I know a bank/credit card/mobile company send their CS to India or other developing nations I cancel that service and move to one which has UK/Ireland based CS. having used "3" for 2 yrs cancelled them and moved to Orange, now moving to O2.

Cant help it when ever i call I did not get service. so i voted with my custom.

  • I have always found the staff in Indian call centres to be a pleasure to deal with. They are usually extremely polite and always try to be as helpful as they can.

Compare that to the bored ignorant staff inhabiting many UK call centres, to many of whom the phrase 'customer service' IS a foreign phrase in itself - and there is no contest.

Gimme an Indian call centre every time.

Perhaps it is call centres full stop that are the problem.

I don't dislike your comments, but if I did, what legislation should I consult?

Forget it. Give him a break.
  • MBNA use Irish call centres too.

Co-op have publically stated they have no intention of using offshore call centres. You do have to cope with Scouse, though .....
I had a 'cold call' from Brish Gas - I could not understand the callers accent - she understood me perfectly - but I could barely understand her.
