  • When your insurance renewal comes through make sure you check if you can get your cover through a cashback site. You might not get the cheapest quote but often the cashback will make it cheaper.

Well it's been a couple of days since I updated my diary, main,y due to the fact that I'm back at work now. I contacted Tax Credits Monday night to try and inform them of my change in circumstances but because of all the palava I've previously mentioned I was unable to give them the details, basically they said I had to ring another number, which I did and I explained my situation but it would appear that in the past when I cancelled my childcare they've took it as me increasing my childcare?? So, someone was supposed to ring me back last night and tonight so I've rushed home from work only for them not to ring. This leaves me in abit of a pickle money wise, although July and August won't be too bad because I don't have a full months childcare to pay, if it's not sorted by September I'm going to be up the creek without a paddle

Anyhow, bank balances are abit tight at the moment, it's OH and DS's birthdays this week end, plus fathers dayand I need more bits and pieces for them, including cakes :bdaycake: so I'm going to check my banks again after this and nip to the shop and hopefully not spend too much :rotfl:

Roll on the end of the month when I get paid :)

And I'm back....just realised last night that I had to pay the childminder today and was starting to panick about where the money was going to come from, thankfully though, I made a good sale on eBay last week and I still had the money in the house from that. Admittedly I hadn't intended to use it for that purpose, it was going to be on the cc bill but the childminder is more important so it was lucky that I'd put it aside. At least I had the money.

I've got a couple of things coming to an end on eBay that have sold but not for grand amounts - I need to rack my braines to think what else I could put on there. whatever I make from selling is destined for the cc. I'm not really leaving myself with much spare cash but that card has just got to be gone. As mentioned previously, my dfd goal is February 2014 and if I can pay my cc off by August 2013, this would allow me to pay off my overdraft and then hopefully become completely debt free all at the same time :D. A lot of this though is subject to tax credits getting their backsides sorted out and OH having plenty of work. I don't want much do I? :rotfl:

  • *slowly enters diary, hoping no-one will notice how long I've been away*

:o well it's been a while. Although my diary has been abandoned, my debt busting hasn't (ish)...let me bring you up to speed.

So, I'm on target to get my cc paid off by November 2013. £3390 left on this and I'm paying £350 pm. Bar the home insurance that went on it months and months ago, this has not been used. :A

Loan is ticking along nicely, I have around £1800 owing, due to end feb 14, hoping to build up some funds to pay it off early.

I got a great free app on my iPhone, simply called 'spending' which I track all of my spends in - I'm finding this very useful, I turn it sideways to see a breakdown in a pie chart :T

I've been reading loads of diaries for inspiration and even have pots set up in my bank account to start saving for car/Christmas/birthdays etc :p

And the downside is....the overdraft :(:(

It's crept up to £2800. December/January are really long months. DD has just had a birthday and party which was an additional cost of around £180 which have added to the OD. I really need to work on this. I know just from my spending app that I've spent £500 on unscheduled costs this month (birthday/car repairs/takeaways) so I should be able bring OD down, that combined to sticking to a tight budget will help but its obviously going to take more than that :embarasse

My New Years resolution is to be debt free this year...I hope I can do it.

    Signing off for now

    Mm :)

  • Just to keep me motivated when debt busting is going slow...another two payments to cc and then I'll be under £3000 :T

  • Also, I meant to add...My Cahoot account is currently being used to receive my Child Benefit, pay off my loan and I also put £50 away into a pot to hopefully settle loan early later in the year. I'm left with £68.71.

By March I'll have enough to pay BT line rental for a year (cheaper option) and then by August I'll be able to pay for car insurance in full. I still worry about Christmas and I hope DH can offer some funds towards it this year, Christmas gone cost me over £2000. Eventually I'd like to build this money up over the year but I can only do that once I have no debt repayments.

  • Well it's 4 weeks since I was last paid my Child Benefit so I was expecting to see it in my Cahoot account this morning but its not there :( Hopefully it'll be there on Monday, otherwise I'll be worried.

I've got a few things for sale in the Ad Trader, if I sell them I'm planning on putting the money into my overdraft. I looked at my spreadsheet last night - I can't see when I'm ever going to get out of the OD. I toyed with using the spare £50 ish pound from Cahoot to help slowly reduce it, but then I'll not have any savings for Line Rental and car insurance so it's pointless.

I reduced my payments to the cc by £11 so that I'm paying off the same amount each month and it'll be done by November.

    I'll update more later

  • Had to fill the car up today...£92 on diesel. I budget £200 per month and have managed to bring it in under that at £179 which isn't too bad. So far this month food shopping has come under budget at £350/£400 so that's good too. Still chewing over OD. Probably wont be rid of that till next year which is a shame but at least ill be cc free (and hopefully loan free) by the end of the year.

  • Well would you believe it! I rent a house out to my friend and she's just contacted me to say Feb's rent will be late due to a problem with her benefits! Never rains but it pours....

She's promised it by the end Feb but what if its not sorted by then??

    Aargh!

That's frustrating about the rent, hope it manages to get sorted promptly!

Well done on coming under budget for fuel and groceries though!
