Harveys Furniture - avoid!!

Options
Hi All

Ordered a Toulouse table from Harveys. When it arrived there were lots of horrible gouges in the table top. We complained to Harveys and they sent an 'independent' engineer round to have a look and see if he could repair. This guy coloured the marks in with a flipping felt tip pen!!! He said he sees loads of furniture from the Toulouse range (he said 5 per day) so obviously loads of people not happy with this furniture. The table in the shop looked great, the one delivered sucks.

The 'independent' engineer produced a report for Harveys that said the table was fine, he put in some blurry pictures taken on his mobile and then had the cheek to attach my signature to the bottom saying I was happy with the repair!

I'm obviously not happy with the felt tip pen repair but I am being ignored by Harveys customer service team. What can I do? :(

WARNING: DO NOT BUY FROM HARVEYS AND DO NOT LET THE 'INDEPENDENT' REPAIR MAN WITH THE FELT TIP PEN THROUGH YOUR FRONT DOOR!!

I am still waiting for my sofas, I knew it was a bad omen the 1st time they turned up after a 3 month wait with wrong colour ones. Sent them away as I had the feeling if I let them 'lend me' the wrong ones getting the right ones would go to the bottom of the pile. Another 3 month wait and we will see. To be fair they have been in touch lots and been proactive in trying to sort it out, even offered to bring us a loan sofa meanwhile.

Also promised a 'mystery' amount of compensation after delivery. Due Notice - It better be good! or I will take great pleasure in creating multitudes of websites dedicated to Harveys reviews and making sure they do well in search engines.

To the op, perhaps they could do you a deal on some nice tableclothes?

Same here - orded a suite in January, told us there was a three month lead time - and in the words of the great song from Diana Ross - I'm still waiting.

What was more annoying was the pack of lies I was told from the sales person. Never again - and avoid like the plague.

Love it - athough a little bit drastic!

Good luck Sillygoose and Dickydonkin – I hope you finally get your sofas and don’t have any problems with them when they arrive... make sure you check them well on delivery. My mistake was believing the delivery man when he said if I reported any problems within 3 days they would be dealt with. Dealt with my a**e. I could have given my 4 year old nephew a felt tip pen to do the same repair!!

I am so mad! This has been going on for 3 months now and it’s ridiculous!

Harveys spent several weeks telling me repeatedly that the gouges in the table were “natural”. When they finally accepted that these gouges applied by the manufacturer are not in any way “natural” or “variations in the wood”, they then decided to try and fob me off with “these marks are in line with manufacturers’ specification”.

I don’t really care what specification Harveys has agreed with the manufacturer, I have asked them to answer a very simple question which they have ignored for over 5 weeks. I have asked them to tell me at what point in the sale process did they tell me that my table might not look like the one in the store but might have these gouge marks?
You would think would be a simple question to answer wouldn’t you? Given they have not been able to produce an answer in the last 5 weeks, I think it is pretty clear that Harveys has no answer. For one simple reason, they didn’t mention that fact at any point!

Now I’m no legal expert but I’d like to know how that can possibly be in accordance with the requirements of the Sale of Goods Act? I’m sure somebody from Harveys monitors this page so perhaps they would care to enlighten us all?

So did you not sign to say you were happy with the repair? How did he get your signature?

I would never ever buy from Harveys again either after buying the worst, most poorly manufactured sofa ever. It actually collapsed in the middle in the space of 2 months and I'm no fatty! Would they sort it? Would they hell...ended up buying a new sofa!

Easy first question to ask yourself before choosing a furniture company.

Are they based in a huge shed on an out of town retail park?

If the answer is yes, avoid.

I fail to see the logic in that assertion.

There are many higher end furniture retailers located in 'sheds on retail parks' who also have outlets in city centres - so are they to be avoided as well?

I suspect many of the problems with furniture is that a lot of the stuff the likes of Harvey's sell is imported crap - probably made in Eastern Europe or the Far East - sadly at the expense of our own furniture industry - a sign of the times I'm afraid.

Yes its made in China hence the long delivery times, they group up enough orders for a shipment of containers - slow boat from China and all that.

Problem is I couldn't get what I wanted elsewhere there really are not many outlets left for things like furniture now.

I do accept that the items were (relatively) cheap and won't last a fraction as long as my last sofas (they came from a Uno Superstore who crashed and burned many years ago) the actual furniture was made in Wales and was still very decent after 17 years.
