  • Finally rang to barter with Virgin. I get phone, broadband and TV with them. Went through to a line specially for customers who are thinking of leaving. I didn't go through to the line for those who are disappointed with losing Sky Channels just the one for thinking of leaving. Immediately she said she would reduce my service charges from £56 to £34.95. I then said Sky talk unlimited better and they get free International calls. She said that Virgin do a reduced rate for £1.50 per month. I pointed out that this is not free, so she gave me free Int calls for a year!
Am moving house soon - and will ring back and say that Sky offered a greater deal and see if I can get free V+ for a while!!
    Many Thanks for the tip!
  • Omigod omigod omigod!!!!

This has been on my to do list for SO long, I now feel a total twit for putting it off.

We have 2MB broadband, talk unlimited and caller ID. Our latest bill was for £45.67.

Phoned up and got straight through to the 'planning to cancel' team (retentions? Who knows). Told the nice man we were fed up with paying too much and politely asked how I go about cancelling.

He immediately reduced our monthly bill to £18.70, ongoing, for as long as we keep those services, and credited my account with £26.34 for this month.

I am one VERY happy bunny!!!

You can have both Virgin and Sky!

You can still have Sky as well - they want you to connect your box to a landline as the box occasionally calls Sky. But VM assure me you can connect it to your VM line and Sky wont know the difference unless Sky can find out from BT which is unlikely as its against the data protection act.

Can you explain how to do that?

I have a standard sky box which they fitted on saturday. I told them not to fit the phone cable as I will do that myself. The workmen were very happy as it saved them 45 minutes of further work. They temporarily attached my standard box to the Virgin/Telewest phone line and provisioned the sky box. 10 minutes after they left, I unplugged the phone line. Not heard anything from sky. According to posts from other forums, sky are only concerned with the likes of sky+ or multiroom boxes phoning home so that sky can tell that they are in the same house. If you have a standard box any phone line is fine ,even Virgin/Telewest. I currently have VoIP and will connect the box up to that if sky give me any hassle, but from other posts, the risks of that is very small with a standard box

  • If your phone service is with them it's just 150.

I think so, it was NTL.

Is 150 the actual retentions line, or can you chose??? As i don;t want to get some customer service rep, i want a real pro ;-p

    Retentions Number is 0800 052 9403 option 3.
  • Same as most of the others - called virgin media (0845 045 1111) hit the 'thinking of leaving because of sky 1' options and negotiated. Do not accept their first offer - they will come back with a better offer (have to go and refer which takes a few seconds). I ended up with the following which is upgrade to my TV and Broadband and saves me £10/month:

    Phone/TV: £21.19
    · Talk Unlimited (free local and national calls any time any day) ‘for life’
    · XL TV package (includes sport and movies) (upgraded from L) ‘for life’
    · Radio Times(for which we pay c£4.50)
    Broadband: £17.00
    · 4mb (upgraded from 2mb) ‘for 12 months’
    Total: £38.19

We also have a small 2nd property which only has TV and Broadband and again after some negotiation (actually they offered this pretty much straight away)
    - basic TV £2/month for life
    - 2mb broadband £10/month for 12 months
-total £12/month for broadband and TV (no phone)
    Around £20/month saving for us!

Of course, will have to call them in 12 months time or we will go back to 2mb broadband in main property and revert to c£18/month broadband in the 2nd property

As ever, thanks to this site for giving me the info and the incentive and saving me a fair few quid!

Can someone help me get my mum a better deal. She's in Scotland and Ive just been checking her Virgin Media Package. I changed mine after reading this thread (I live in England) and she pays the following

£15 per month for Satana (scottish football channels I think)
£9 per month for XL TV Package
£22.50 per month for L TV Package and Phone
    Doesn't have internet or mobile.

Total = £46.50 per month just in charges.

I think she is being overcharged because she is paying for a Large TV Package and an XL TV Package. She watches Hallmark Channel a lot and she had to change her package so she could continue to get it but reading from her bill she's paying 2.

Once she has sorted her bill out what sort of deal could she get - she wants
    XL TV Package
    XL Phone Package
Satana sports (she would rather have sky sports but you have to pay for this in addition to Satana). Does anyone else have a similar package and what sort of price should she haggle for.
