I booked my delivery slot for this morning between 9 - 11 and I get a text message this morning to say that my shopping will be delivered between 9 -10.

I always get back from the school run at 9, so this morning I am walking up the road to my house and the Tesco van is sitting outside with the man inside on his phone, I signal him and open the front door, he begins unloading the crates.

When he gets to the door, he starts moaning at me to say I am supposed to be here at 9, he was just about to go and I was late as it's getting on for 5 past (lie!). I said I wasn't late and I was here at 9. He keeps going on and on about it, I say well if your going to be funny and have an attitude about it then take the shopping back and pi$$ off! Yes, ok not the ideal approach, but I don't appreciate being spoken to like a child and watching him tapping his watch.

I get the shopping off him, sign for it and and he just says "I don't need to take abuse like that" and I just said "fine".

I have rang up CS and told them (even the part where I said pi$$ off). The point being that I was there at 9, so I won't be accused of being late. They apologised and have refunded my delivery charge for the inconvenience. The lady did say they are supposed to wait for 5 mins anyway.

Rant over!

Don't use Tesco again - simples!

Although he antagonised you in the way he tried to make his point, delivery drivers are under constant time pressures (presumably to meet targets?) and there are always unforeseeables on the road that can contribute to delays.

    Oh dear! Not so good.
I normally have opposite problem in that they are always late - lots of oldies in my area make them cups of tea and want to chat - one admitted. Never had one rant at me though.
Could it be worth booking next time in next slot perhaps?

I have using Tesco for about 3 years without issue and I was quite shocked at the way he was with me. Have had the same driver before and he's always been ok.

I don't usually book a 9-11 slot, it's mostly 10-12. But yes, I won't book that same slot again. In fact I will probably book an evening slot in future so I won't get the same driver.

I have in the past thought about using Asda, but I've avoided it because of all the bad reports I've read about their delivery service.

I'm almost on the verge of changing to waitrose or something from sainsburys (I used to use Tesco but after three massive problems, involving them substituting lightbulbs for a totally different type, handling jars so roughly that their seals popped, and having a bottle of bleach leak all over the food), because the current delivery driver I'm cursed with does my head in.

Every time, he moans about having to carry the goods up the stairs to my door, and tries to get me to carry it for him.

Now, I have severe back and pelvis problems, and I've told him before, but he always looks at me like I'm a liar, and it always feels really uncomfortable. Especially as last time I relented and my back kept spasming the rest of the day.

If he's not fit and able to carry the goods, surely he shouldn't be doing such a job? I've not complained YET though, because I'd feel bad getting someone in trouble if they have health issues.

That's awful for you Vyle. I would definitely have complained about it by now!

some drivers Ive had have been really nice others have been a bit rude.

When we had really bad snow my delivery turned up an hour early and the guy practically threw my shopping in the door saying he was in a rush. I phoned to complain got £5 off my next online shop.

Last week my delivery turned up 3 hours early but the driver said is it ok to deliver early, if not he would come back later at the time I booked. He had another delivery close by and thought he would check. Worked out quite nicely as Id wanted an earlier slot but there were none available.

Sustitutions are a nightmare as well, they seem to lack common sense with some of them. I ordered some large swim nappies, they were OOS so they sent medium. I had to explain to the CS guy on the phone it would be like going into a shop and asking for some size 7 shoes and being given a 6 and told "we've got no 7's but try these instead".

As if by magic, today's delivery was bang on time, with a friendly, helpful, and absolutely gorgeous driver :o

Even asked if i had any bags to recycle and offered to help me unpack everything. Couldn't have asked for more....well I could have, but it would have been entirely inappropriate :rotfl:

If I were the driver and you told me to pi$$ off, no matter how annoyed you were. I'd of grabbed your shopping and told you to come and collect it yourself!

    Manners cost nothing..

What you all fail to realise is these deliveries are timed,a driver has X minutes to deliver the goods, offload it & go to the next one & be back at the depot on time.If he isn't back on time, then the delivery going out after his, which will use his van, will be held up & then the's a knock on affect.
While I agree that his approach wasn't the best, maybe he was having an off day,we all have them.
The drivers are often under a lot of preassure on certain days that are more popular than other days, which may have added to it.

(I was a T/L in an online delivery dept for one of the big four supermarkets for a while)

If you were the driver would you badger your customers with some crap you'd made up?

You say manners cost nothing, but this bloke was being paid and still didn't have any.
