It's a shame my local sainsburys didn't ask me...stopped doing a main shop in there since every time I went in, the choice of fresh fruit and veg was slim to non existent! Didn't matter if it was evenings, weekend or the during the week when I was off work, always the same
When it first opened I heard a few people comparing it to the old store and that the bakery section was much smaller (I don't remember what the old one was like) and that certain areas were a lot smaller. Their non-food has been expanded and its got a much bigger cafe, though I HATE the cafe sign, it looks like a cheap greasy motorway cafe sign.
Apart from that its a really nice store. If you live near Heaton, Newcastle then I would highly recommend it!0 -
My local Tesco seems to have now stopped selling the value wholemal bread.
They had the new everyday value in for a couple of times I went in, since then they have done a shelf-rearrange and it has disappeared.
I am not impressed...Indecision is the key to flexibility0 -
As is the produce - I bought tomatoes last night, just value ones 'cos they were the only ones on the vine. They were horrid (all 'grainy' and incredibly mushy) almost as though they'd been frozen and defrosted. I'm aware that this isn't our season for them but they were vile. The ones from sainsburys last week were delicious, practically the same price (TTD ones too!) and part of a much greater choice!
I find it is a waste of time buying the value (and sometimes even the standard) ones, and have to go for the 'posh' ones. We are on a budget so I don't do that lightly, but I agree with you that the value 'OTV' ones are really not very nice.
Coop tomatoes are generally good.Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

There aught to be a law against that too!
I usually just drop my shopping & go out for a smoke, but I've actually had panic attacks because of this.I wish I could fly, right up to the sky! But I can't...Famous Last Words: Bus?... What B....

I was hoping there would be a thread about this, the first thing I noticed when they did this was the price increase on things then saw the new packaging.
Some items since I started buying them in Tescos in October 2011 have gone up by over 100%. There's just no excuse for it at all, it's just robbery.
There's a Sainsburys near by but you can't go there and beat the Tescos price as within 24 hours they've price matched everything with Tescos. Like somebody said earlier Tesco are setting the price for food whether you shop there or not it seems.
Tesco are also by far the worst of the supermarkets for putting prices up then when they lower them again they're still loads higher than they were previously.0 -
Tesco have used the change of packing on cocoa valu e as an oppurtunity to reduce the contents to 200g from previous 250g
yet the price didnt go down
Also tesco usually have less of good quality main ingredient when they match other supermarkets & usually bulk up with cheaper alternative0 -
Not sure if mentioned - sorry if it has.
Where are all our grapes gone? the value and standard ones are terrible - they taste bland and are not juicy had a good mind to return them the first time I got the value ones, but didn't then bought some standard ones again same problem. Checked origin and they are from India.
The same for those from Asda. One of the fruit's we buy lots of are green / red / black grapes in our house, but the kids are refusing to eat these aswell.0 -

Sounds like a variety issue- they tend to use 3 or 4 different ones (thompson, crimson, flame etc) for the value grapes. Just check the pack when you buy, and if you don't like them, don't get that kind again. I hate "flame" so if those are on the pack I have a look to see if there are punnets of anything else, sometimes a few types are mixed in on the shelf into one rack.
I had red Thompson grapes last time- find the green ones dry but the red are lush, so juicy and sweet.
I do order online from Tesco, and if I don't like the kind that have been sent I hand them back to the driver.0 -
Just had some awful green seedless ones from Tesco - really bitter skins. Not even the 'value' ones either.
I'd agree with the comments two posts above about the poor quality of supermarket grapes now. Compared with a few years back, they're frequently of very poor quality, and they don't even keep more than a day or two before they start to go bad.
Waitrose are a lot better than Tesco, though, as usual.0 -
dont know if anyone has mentioned this before in this thread but i thoroughly recommend avoiding the new Tomato Ketchup value version, it is without a doubt the most disgusting ketchup I have ever tasted. we had to throw it away and return to Morrisons 21p stuff which is lovely. only reason i turned to the T one was as i was in that shop at the time. waste of money.Car Boot Queen!!
Clothes Golden Rule: Never pay full price unless it is an utter bargain in the first place!
Sales, boots, charity shops, ebay- why would anyone ever pay full price for anything??!0
