    Hi All,

Really enjoying keeping up with all of your news :) You all have such great ideas and I loved reading caitlyn22's post about your family traditions growing up - I don't really remember the gifts I received growing up but the traditions never fade! My OH and I are hosting this year and it's going to be a right old mashup of both our families' traditions, can't wait! :j

I'm planning on making a cocktail hamper for OH as we found a great old walnut drinks cabinet at an auction over the summer for a couple of pounds (!) and we're slowly filling it up with goodies. Does anyone have any ideas for things I could put in it? We already have a book and a shaker so I'm thinking mixers, ingredients etc. but wondered if anyone else was doing something similar or had seen anything out and about?

    Thanks all x

    Hi ,

    Swizzle sticks
    Cocktail 'brellas
    Mini lime hand juicer
Small flat dish for salting/sugaring glasses
    Small bowl for lemon/lime slices
    Coasters
    Drinks tongs
    Mini ice bucket

    I fancy a cocktail now

    :).

You should be able to get most of these thing fairly cheaply I think.
Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.

Made my peanut butter cup-type chocs last night and they worked a treat, move over Reese's, mine are better than yours! :rotfl:

Love the sound of these, can you give me the recipe please? :p

I googled an easy christmas cake recipe yesterday as DH loooooves them. So I bought all the ingredients today....should be fun :rotfl::rotfl:

I bought DS a mug and I got individual sachets of hot chocolate in different flavours, I put them in the mug and do it up in cellophane.

DH brought down my wrapping paper and cards from the attic last night. Loads of christmas cards, but not as much wrapping paper as I thought. I'll see how it goes and if needed buy some more.

    Getting excited now xxx

kraftykat the mug and hot chocolates for your ds sounds great. good luck with the Christmas cake.

They won't dissolve in the hot chocolate. They will just float. Instant coffee granules will work.

You could also use cinnamon sugar.

Just remember to let your chocolate cool down or the topping will just melt on contact.
I would actually love that, might try it with chocolate covered coffee beans yum yum. :D

Snugglebunny and moneysavingmumofone you really are the best. Thank you you've both cheered me up no end :)
No festive shopping for me this weekend although we have paid the last instalment on our Australia tickets so wooo hooo it's really going to happen:) Been a bit down in the dumps of late but love reading and catching up with you all.
Have tried to organise my spare room today, trying to make the pressie stash look better and more organised. Spent two solid hours moving bags from one place to another making far more mess than I started with. I'm going to try an early night and tackle it again in the morning!
Kinky Linky I will say goodnight now in case I don't get back on. X
Woohoo! :D Your organising sounds like mine lol, I always end up with more mess!! Saw this on grabbit in case you need to send any xmas goodies to Australia? https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4283861 x

    Hello guys

I have been so lax on coming to this thread naughty me!

However I have started wrapping/tagging presents.. okay so only 4 presents but I am chuffed never this organised! Also got my mum some high breif pants she likes with funny prints half price in asda. they truely dont look as naff as I make them sound :O.

Am hoping to pop in primark tomorrow but am skint till wednesday! Just popping in to get a novelty pair of boxers/socks for brothers stocking as usually cheap!

I want to get so much for my mum but this is my first xmas not working! It sucks! I am determind she will have an amazing christmas. We have also decided instead of getting a big heavy over priced turkey for christmas like we usually do asda do lovely whole turkey breast for 5er no bones no waste cook from frozen we tried it the other night and was lovely! So next week getting 2 for the freezer and stuffing and mini sausages for the freezer so thats some of the xmas food shop started!

We put decs up usually between 8th-12th xmas. I am also looking for cheap films or recording films for us to watch xmas day!

plus I have been so worried about it being just me mum and brother on xmas day (last year my auntie uncle stayed) and years before that dad lived with us... but now auntie and uncle have said they will be here for xmas :D cant tell u guys how happy that makes me!

Anyway well done if you read that mammoth post lol!
Thats great, hope you have a lovely christmas. :) Same here with my mum, she rarely gets anything for herself and I would like to spoil her rotten but money is the problem! Not that it would be easy to buy her loads anyway as all she asks for is jumpers, jeans and socks! Not into material possessions at all lol. So I just try to help out as much as I can with wrapping and christmas shopping etc. x

Love the wreath msgigglewick, so cute!

t-rexcellent-How about a few of those ready made cocktail cans or pouches to get you started? :)

Sorry you had an arrogant encounter bunbun2! So many people suddenly become horrid behind the wheel! x

I *might* start wrapping tomorrow, I dont usually start until December but theres always a mad rush to finish wrapping and theres SO much to wrap! Just added up and I have 33 people to buy for not including the various exchanges/shoeboxes/Postpals presents. Most people get 3 presents each then obviously one is my DS who will have more. Maybe I shouldnt have added that up, PANIC! :rotfl:

  • Hi all
Ive seen a few people mention the card factory teddies so i popped in today, are they the snowman & reindeers? at £1.99 or do they do others but just not in the store I went in?
The only santa one i saw was £3.99 :( but a lot bigger which i dont want
My 2 year old would love a snuggly santa:)
  • Started sewing our names on stockings this afternoon. Now the problem is I'm an impatient so-and-so, Boyes didn't have any red embroidery thread left, so I got some thin embroidery metallic thread rather than wait.
Dear God my eyes are killing me!
So I have only done one letter up to now, might have to be a letter a day, good job our names are short!

  • msgigglewick--- that is a brilliant wreath and can completely understand why you wouldn't want to leave it outside as it would just get ruined.

  • Good evening fellow xmas nuts! Im feeling stupidly christmassy today, and I need to feed my passion! So, once kids are in bed I think I might try out my mini chocolate shape ideas, kind of chocolate slabs but in the individual silicone moulds I have, still decorated with yummy stuff! I have about 3 or 4 variatys i want to try out. I do temper my chocolate, so am hoping if I make them now, leave a good 24 hours to set in fridge, then package them & put in a box in the garage, they should be ok still by christmas. I dont add anything else to the chocolate so I am just assuming a 45 day shelf life would be ok?? Can anyone let me know if im wrong, before I start making them in about an hour please! Also want to do chocolate stirrers! I also have cake in jar mixes, but want to leave them closer the time as my recipe includes marshmallows & dont want them to be rock hard!
    Thanks in advance... :rudolf:

For my peanut butter chocolatey cup-type things (catchy name huh? ;)) I used:

    110g digestive biscuits
    115g icing sugar
    130g peanut butter
    112g butter (melted)
    400g milk chocolate

I used the round chocolate mould from Lakeland as pictured here:

    p13174_1?$380$
    • First melt some chocolate (I use approx 100g) and coat the mould (bottom and sides) before popping in the fridge
    • Crush digestive biscuits, add them to a bowl with melted butter and icing sugar and give them a good mix
    • Add peanut butter to the mix and give it another good blast for a minute
    • I used a teaspoon to measure out the peanut butter mix and squished as much in as I could, leaving around a mm gap
    • Pop it back into the fridge for 10mins and melt some more chocolate to coat the tops
    • Once you're done coating the tops, another 10mins in the fridge and you're good to go!
One note: This did make a LOT! I filled the above mould 3 times, so you may want to half it. Or not. It is damn tasty! :rotfl:
