Quick Question RE chocolate slabs. How many milk choc bars from lidl should I use in a silicone loaf mould? And how many white for decoration? x

You would need 1 milk bar and 1/4 white. Do one and if you want it thicker go up to 1 1/4 milk bars.

good luck with this and with the festive fivers. i love love love food and am seriously considering writing a food blog. Infact I am presently trying my hand at writing 10 articles to see if i can do it so we will see. But maybe you should try your hand at it too? You seem to like making amazing sounding stuff.

    Blog

I really wouldn't know where to begin. How do you make a blog ?
Can you sell from a blog ?
I really need to be able to sell what I make.
I am going to make a face book page, as I know what I am doing there.
    Blogs look a little frightening.:o

I know what u mean. That is why I am not sure if I will be doing it either although I am still writing the articles. They are free and easy to set up and depending on how u set it up u can sell stuff on it. But yes good plan to go with what you know. Can you let me know when you set up FB so that I can go check it out? Might be best to PM me as I might not see a message that you post the usual way.
Good luck and I have bookmarked the chilli oil and sugar.

    .

My mum sent me a giant bean bag as an early Christmas present today.
This is the one if anyone else is interested in buying one as a gift or something as they're 50% off at the moment
    http://www.beanbagbazaar.co.uk/bazaar-bags.html

I love it but it is very large just incase anyone doesnt realise lol.

I got the dark blue as my sofa and curtains are navy. I love that it can be wiped clean.
chirpychick what size is the beanbag im looking for one like that for my 14 year old daughter so when her friends stay they can use it to sleep on do you think it would be big enough?

  • Soooooo thankfully I have just spoken to the most helpfully member of the Halifax fraud team who has managed to work and sort out my bank account fiasco!
Basically someone cracked my card number and tested it using a music download website and when they realised it worked decided to spend 140£ of my money on a large tescos order!
I've had my cards cancelled and my account is being monitored! I will have all money refunded but normal account services won't resume for 10 days! Very glad my mum suggested I emptied what was left in my account at the time so I can do a food shop at the weekend.
I feel a big weights been lifted as the issue seems to have been resolved but now I can't Xmas shop cos some !!!!!! went and bought everything in tescos! Pfft!
Ah well, at least I am home at my mum & dads and they are cheering me up :) bless them!

You would better off buying a silicone cake or loaf tin to make your slabs. That way you can make birthday presents aswell with it .

I got mine in the 99p store.

Oh I took it that they wanted Christmassy moulds (like the penguin one you used for your slabs) to decorate the slabs. Thought the trees would be ideal for that (& the trees could also be done in white choc or green choc & decorated with icing tinsel & baubles - that's my plan anyway!). Sorry if that's not what was meant. They'll be no good to use for the actual slab!

I'm so annoyed . I made some vanilla extract & vanilla sugar a couple of months ago (to let the flavours develop) for gifts & I've just gone to shake the vanilla sugar & it had gone hard in the jar. Fine I thought, I'll just give it a stir. Again fine except I couldn't reach the bottom of the glass jar. Again, fine I thought, I'll just give it a little poke with a knife.

Not fine! The glass at the bottom completely shattered, there was glass & sugar everywhere . Had to chuck it, damned cheap jars . Thankfully I still had some sugar & vanilla pods & a smaller jar so have re made some. Hoping the flavours will have time to develop.
  • Oh, also forgot to ask, has anyone made bath salts before?

If so, what kind of salt did you use? Most "recipes" (can you call it that for a non food thing?) say any salt is fine but don't wan to spend a fortune on something if another cheaper salt will be fine (am assuming basics table salt won't be ok cos most salt scrubs seem to use coarser salt).

Have seen dead sea salt & Epsom salt on eBay which is specifically for beauty stuff. Is this the best thing to use or any other recommendations?

I've got the plastic jars to fill so hoping to get the salt & essences this weekend so I can make them in the next few weeks.

Onmyown, have you looked at Martha Stewarts website? She's got loads of ideas Which you could use/adapt to sell.
  • Hello everyone! I've been reading this thread for a while now and thought it was about time that I delurked!

I am super excited about Christmas this year, my boyfriend and I are hosting my (very small) family and some of his so should be a hoot! We already have our 'box of joy' that we're slowly filling up with treats and nibbles that are reduced/on offer and have good dates on. Last year it was a suitcase of joy, wonder what 2013 will be?!

Thanks for all your useful posts, I'm nearly done on the shopping front but always end up getting tempted!

Spacecadet - I read in the Waitrose Christmas magazine (what else?!) that if you have sugar that's gone hard, you should place a couple of slices of apple in the jar/bag for a while and it will naturally soften up - just in case you have any trouble with your new batch :)

You may well be right about the moulds, I could have read it wrong.

I think your sugar will be fine. It only takes a couple of weeks for the flavour to develope. If they are for Christmas they will have loads of time.
  • littlemschatabox have been thinking about you today and am so glad you got somebody to sort it out, am not in the best frame of mind when it comes to other people doing vile things to people, so I'll stop now before I go into a rant about dishonest people! but very pleased you got it sorted, I hope they can trace them via delivery of the Tesco order?
