thanks Own My Own for the pics and info on the slabs, they look great! thanks for the extra tips too Cornish Orchid Im inspired to give them a go I think!

    welcome Little Moon and kerrylm

popped into Homebase as they had promised their Christmas shop would be up and running and it was, lots of lovely white, bark and wood, and the pink/pale blue/lilacs, the nicest stuff ive seen them have in years, lots of lights and decs on offer or half price.

This year they have a range of snow covered trees, I got the little one (sapling) for 9.99 instead on 19.99, the tub is in sacking, so doesnt have big feet like some of the tree bases do, so would suit a window ledge, so pretty! they have the warm white battery lights 3.99 which thought would look good on it. Best thing they have is range of woodland animals in the white fuzzy stuff (no idea what it's called but slightly sparkly and looks fab) they have reindeer in different positions with little wreaths around their necks for 8.99, I got a grazing one to go with the little snow covered tree.

got pleasently interrupted by a little girl of about 3 who was enthralled with the whole thing, I rather worriedly asked her if her mummy knew where she was and chatted to to her whilst looking for a store member to alert, but poor mum, with another child in tow, arrived absolutely distraught that she had disappered, she couldnt resist the Christmas displey!, but nearly gave her poor mum heart failure! such a worry when you find a little child and dont want to leave them while you go and look for somebody to alert their parent, but obviously dont want to take them with you to find someone! I felt awful her poor mum was so worried, shopping with toddlers is sucha worry!

Oh also peeps, I know not everyone likes to nor can afford to but can I remind people that now is a good time to start getting in a bit of bird seeds for the birdies if we have a bad winter?

or store your fat and use that.

    :)

Hello, we just got back from our caravan holiday and my Grampas funeral yesterday, so trying to wash and iron clothes before school starts back tomorrow.

While I was away I went into Wilkos and picked up some gorgeous wooden tree decs and a wreath. They had loads of lovely gift sets too. i got my sister a nice sewing box.

I also got myself a Rudolph jumper from Primark and some christmassy tea towels.

My OH is working late tomorrow night, so I plan to watch a Christmas film and drink hot chocolate x

We lost our niece in a Tesco Superstore when she was about that age. The store and carpark where locked down, and the builders that in the store walked along the long metal rafters looking for her . My sister was in tears. We where just about to ring the police when someone found asleep in a large drum of teddy bears.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. It is very hard when someone dies suddenly and you have not said goodbye.
But having lost one grandparent to a heart attack and another to cancer , I would rather not say goodbye than see them suffer.

We have a resident squirrel lol which is bizarre because of where our house is, you wouldn't expect him to live close by!! However for the last 2 or 3 years he is never far away come Winter and seems to enjoy the wild bird seed as much as all the birds do :-O
Hubby makes the fat balls up in an old coconut shell that he hangs to our tree too.

    Avon Wildlife trust says
    "What do squirrels eat?
Squirrels are opportunistic. They can make use of any new food supply including peanuts, bulbs and
eggs, but their main food is tree seed, particularly hazel nuts and seed from conifer cones. They also
eat tree flowers and shoots, and in winter they take fungus from under tree bark. Towards autumn
seed is stored for future use by burying it below the soil surface and leaf litter in a cache. Individual
squirrels will have large numbers of caches, each containing two or three items."

Also they breed in January so will do them good for a bit of extra food :)

We get some beautiful birds in our garden it is fun trying to figure out what they are we usually use this:

    http://www.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/birdidentifier/form.aspx

Hubby and I enjoy it but im looking forward to doing it with my little boy when he is older too.

You could even incoorporate it into the elf visit - a bird spotting book (i.e some paper stapled together that they could make themselves or something so whenever they see a new bird in the garden they can draw it or something like that, take a photo, see how many different birds they spot)
the elf could encourage them to help you to put the food out for the birds that kind of thing.
