Evening all
Have been reading plenty but had to reset my password to log back in to post.
I have done a tad more xmas shopping (I can't stop flipping buying) but still haven't finished.
Thank you everyone for all the wonderful ideas and links!
I'm currently watching a nice Christmas film :rotfl::xmassmile:rudolf:0 -
I just caught the end of the new ASDA Christmas advert - a mum stuffing toys in a cupboard and the phrase 'because the best presents don't happen by magic'
Please tell me that I have either misheard or the first half of the advert was pro-santa, because the bit I saw looked like it was killing the magic of Christmas for any young children who may have seen it
I will be watching for it again....
I've seen this add a few times
I'm really disappointed in them to be honest, it is on during the day when children are up and watching the tv. Over the weekend I caught the beginning of it coming on (again for what seemed like the third time that day!) whilst I was cooking and DS was watching tv so quickly ran in and turned the channel over. He's old enough to understand things like that and It would of set a string of questions going off in his head!
DS then went mental because he was watching a movie that was on and accused me of being 'mean' and not letting him watch a film I had previously said he could watch :rotfl:
I didn't know how to explain why I'd turned it over so I just casually switched it back on and wandered away... He must think I'm crackers! Haha!
I get that the add is aimed at mums, But putting it on during the waking hours of children is hardly appropriate!chirpychick wrote: »so i was just wondering what i could do to make it "feel" more like christmas? might help others in a similar situation too.
I think having a new baby will make christmas twice as more magical than it usually is for you just by itself
I remember DS's first christmas he was still far to young to have a clue what was going on, but something about there being a baby at christmas time just makes it feel extra special!
You could do a special xmas morning breakfast for you and your DH? Something you wouldn't normally do so its a real treat?
Have some christmas music playing during the early afternoon?
Have lots of lovely christmas scente candles or a christmas plug in? I find the more it 'smells' like christmas, the more christmassy I feel
How about watching a christmas movie in the late afternoon?
Or do something silly like both wear something christmassy, such a santa hat each? There only about £1 these days!
And if financially possible, have you thought about getting a christmas board game you could play together in the evening over a nice bottle of wine? Christmas monopoly looks fab! But there are others as well.
Hope I've helped a little, This year is the first time I'll be waking up alone, just me and DS on christmas day so I know what it feels like to be a bit worried about things being 'different' this yearHave you read Skipping Christmas by John Grisham - story of Christmas with The Kranks http://www.amazon.co.uk/Skipping-Christmas-Kranks-John-Grisham/dp/0099559994
I didn't even know there was a book!
I love love love love LOVE christmas with the kranks!
I can't believe I didn't know about this! I'm going to check with the local library and see if they have it!
Congratulations to opee92 - I secretly prefer little boys. Not a girl fan at all - Which I suppose is good for DS :rotfl:
moneysavingmumofone - Thanks for the pics! I hope my T's get them in stock soon, the onsie is lovely and fairly cheap!Having a coke with youis even more fun than going to San Sebastian, Irun, Hendaye, Biarritz, Bayonne
or being sick to my stomach on the Travesera de Gracia in Barcelona0 -
Oooooh I forgot to mention, DS sort of found my present stash - well he caught a glimpse of stuff up at the top of my wardrobe so I said to DH they need to be wrapped so that little eyes don't wander. So I bought some brown paper and I'm going to stamp it - or let the kids do it!:xmassmile:rudolf:0

also does Athena still exist? if so they do loads of prints..then get a frame from the Range..they are the cheapest and best quality0 -
Re the ASDA ad, I think they've quite carefully chosen to say 'those little bonus presents' to avoid the whole Father Christmas/main presents issue being ruined.
Evidently it hasn't really worked though!:rudolf: :rudolf: :rudolf: :rudolf: :rudolf:0
