    Morning all,

Congratulations to all the new Mums and Grandmas :)

Think I'm coming down with a spot of man flu :)

Got to go into town later to take the shops takings to the bank. Got a jumper to take back to Primark so am hoping they have the Christmas jumpers to look at and some nice pj's. Will also have a look in Wilko's as we need some stuff for work - the perfect excuse ;)

Went to a town and country show yesterday. Managed to get MIL a lovely scarf which I've stashed away for Christmas, they had some lovely decorations there.
We bought a lovely watercolour painting of the four seasons. The winter one has a lovely snowy cottage with a robin and holly on, It's a beautiful Christmassy scene.

Tonight when I get home I'm going to get all the presents out to check I've not missed any off my list.
It's payday on Friday so we can finish it all off (she say's, I'll just continue to see things during Nov/Dec and everyone will end up with more!)
I like to have it all done at least by early December then I like to wrap in stages during December - Christmas music or a film on, hot choc or mulled wine, in my christmas pj's with the tree lights twinkling...bliss :)

I've found some fab sausage dog socks in go in my Mum's mini hamper from the dog.
Thought of a great idea for my Aunt and Uncle. My Dad absolutely loved Mr Whippy ice creams so I've decided to do them a 'things that Dad liked' hamper for them (my Aunt is my Dad's Sister - they were very close) So I thought I would do an ice cream part - ice cream shaped sweets, toppings, ice cream bowls, ice cream fridge magnet and pen etc. Put some bike shaped chocs in, an ice cream mug and some crunchies and twirls and a photo frame with a pic of my Dad in.

    Does anyone else do hampers?

Then for Christmas day I'm going to give everyone a crunchie and a twirl tied in ribbons so we can 'toast' one to my Dad - he would love it :)

Got some Mr Kipling mini Christmas cake slices, so have bought one for my Lunch :) but I'm yet to have my first mince pie of the season. My Aunt makes her own, they are soooooo much better then shop bought ones. So I'm waiting for her to make her first batch :)

This year is my first ever attempts at hampers. I might even borrow your ice cream hamper idea to go along with the movie night in hamper idea I have for my BIL. See the below thread for inspiration and ideas. I got my hamper confidence from here. good luck to the both of us.

    Debt-free and Proud!
It's a good job it's a quiet day at work, just spent most of the morning catching up on the weekend's postings, you're definitely a chatty bunch. Sorry, I've not thanked any posts, my screen is only showing the report button for some bizarre reason.

Congrats to pip's mum. Own my own you are potty trying to find all the links in this thread!

Nothing Christmassy to report, spent most of the weekend trying to order a new bed online from Mr Argoos, toook me til last night to get the website to play nicely for me.

Ordered some WH Smiths vouchers from consumer pulse to buy some bits for neice's reading hamper and also to buy bessie's daughter some pretty notebooks as she's a mad writer - poems, stories, plans etc. DH also saw a book in there he'd like, could probably buy it cheaper elsewhere but I always feel if I've bought something with vouchers I've earned it's as good as free :)

I am after some ideas please, but no so much that I think it's worth it's own fred.

I have got 12 coming for Christmas dinner, I would like each to get a small favour or something simple as a token of thanks/love etc.
Just something small that maybe they can hag on the fridge or keys or something.

Can anybody come up with anything sensible (and cheap!) please?

How about candy cane sleighs for the table, each with wrapped chocolate bars etc, have you seen the link for them? if not I will find it and post it for you, you could wrap the individual small bars of chocolate etc (like the Dairy Milk in the tubes you get at Christmas?) so each sleigh has lot of tiny parcels all wrapped?

Where oh where did you get the grown up spiderman onesie please?! My brother would LOVE one!

    Primarni, they're great. :T they were £15
  • Always after a bargain - you're teaching your husband well, my OH still has some way to go!

abcdefghijklmnop - fab idea for the tea advent calendar! It's lovely you are personalising it for him. Also On My Own the tea wreath is great too!

Vintage queen 72 - I love the majon jar candle holders with epsom salts - so simple yet so effective! I really want to make some!

Ameyturtle - hope your first day at Lush goes well and you enjoy it. :D Let us know how you got on.

Snugglebunny8 - I really dislike it when people comment on other people's appearences, it is not something I do myself. Ok fair enough, if someone walks down the street in a neon green lycra jumpsuit then i'd expect there to be some comments, but that is that persons choice to wear that outfit. What I really don't like is negative comments about someone's physical appearence - we are born the way we are and we cannot help how we look. And I know it's really cliched but it is how we behave as a person that really matters.

totally agree!! some people are so rude it makes me really cross!

Snugglebunny, I'm 5'1 and people still comment on my height now I'm 33. He could try framing it as a positive - Isn't it brilliant?! I know I'll shoot up in my mid-teens like all the other men in my family, but for now I don't have to pay adult prices because I look young and I get away with so much... *cheeky smile*

I like telling people how I get mistaken for someone in my early 20s all the time and what an ego boost it is.

I was little myself at school and got called 'Shrimp' it never really bothered me really, guess its easier for females to be smaller! thought I must say I never really notice guy's heights unless they are extreme - I'm 5'4" now so I'm pretty much average I guess, but was always one of the smaller ones, my sister used to tell me 'the best things come in the smallest packages' :D

My father in law was 5'6 yet my hubby is 6ft, all the guys on my side of the family were small until 16/17 then grew to 6ft, my nephew grew 5 inches in a year aged 16, from being one of the smaller ones - I think DS quite likes people thinking hes cute, the kids on the older years always think hes adorable! :rotfl:
  • I really should be getting an early night, busy day at work tomorrow but... i love the tea advent calander idea, i wonder if i could "suggest" dh makes one up for me? Just made 8 snowman soups, wine glass bead charms for xmas dinner table, and a practice candy boquet, a little welcome home pressie for dh at the weekend! Im really pleased with my efforts tonight and cant wait to get started on some more tomorrow.
Does anyone know where i can get hold of some moshi monster pjs, suitable for 5yo dd. ive seen boys ones, but she's a bit of a girly girly (except for lovin the moshis!) and i would like some pink ones if possible. Im stuck for pjs for 12 yo dd, might have to give in and get her a onsie!

B & M Bargains had the moshi pjs, not sure if they still have them though

Happy christmas, I will do some preparation for the big day, and it is also my father's birthday. I will pick some gifts for him and plan a party for him! Can you give me more advice?

Are you planning to have a Christmas and birthday party on the day?
  • I have just subscribed and there are so many wonderful ideas on here!!

The only thing I can add at the mo is about my sharing sack. I have two boys very close in age and they always ask for lots of the same things at Xmas, I cannot afford to buy two of everything so larger things and DVDs, Wii games etc are placed in a separate sack called the sharing sack. I have a note attached to it which states:

Please do not open these presents unless you are prepared to share them. Love Santa. PS my elves will be checking.

It has worked a treat for the last 5 years!

What about the pots of gold? I'm making them for my Table gifts this year, pretty glasses, lametta, choc coins, toffees, fererro, lindt bear and a lottery scratchcard, all wrapped in cellophane with a pretty bow and label! Got the idea on here but I can't find the link anywhere!
