    Afternoon all :)

Just popped to ikea to see if any bargains in 25 year celebration. Found a set of 4 round storage boxes on offer for £5. Look good for xmas hampers. Item is Babbla 602.394.98

    They were reduced from £10.
  • I love my Christmas Ham and have done in in various ways. I've also cooked it in Cherry Coke (has to be the full fat variety if anyone is thinking of doing it - not Diet) and it is lovely. Haven't tried Ginger Beer though - my mum would like that. I've kep loads of Christmas receipes over the year. Good Housekeeping usually have a good ham receipe - can't wait for their December magazine to come out. I used to get my Turkey from my Butcher. It's free range and costs me about £50 to feed about 8-10. That's why the 3 Bird roast in M&S doesn't seem too bad price wise for me as it's around the same price as the Turkey but I don't have to prepare it!!!

Ooh, my internet is playing up today so I hope this posts.

Shona, last year we bought a turkey crown from Asda. We went to SIL's for Christmas Day but Hubby insisted we got a turkey anyway as he loves leftovers - turkey butties, turkey & chips, turkey curry... Yes, I really did buy a turkey so Hubby could enjoy "leftovers"! He was gutted there were no leftovers from the turkey his DS had bought, not even to make turkey butties for supper

I always get a gammon joint in too for...yes you've guessed it...leftovers for DH

  • Finally managed to pick up both a nice glossy m&s Christmas food magazine along with the m&s gift guide. Wow - some amazing bits in both.

Firstly regarding the gift guide, loving the garlands – With the 3 for 2 offers, I can get 3 lovely garlands for the stairs which I will mix with led battery operated lights for a real nice effect :)

Now onto my main observations and questions – The Food. This will be my first year cooking Xmas dinner this year. We are stopping at home (for the first time) now that we have a little DD. I’ve mentioned before that I have always wanted an M & S Xmas lunch so can’t wait. Having purchased vouchers and gift cards throughout the year I have £120 to put towards the family feast; what a great way to save as I haven’t missed it at all really, so looking at the prices (whilst they are on the heavy side) it does make it a little easier to take.

Right booking process: In order to receive discounts on a £120 if I split into 2 orders I can have 2 bottles of free wine instead of just 1 bottle of Cava.

But to those who have ordered before….how do they work it out as many of the meats are approximate prices (i.e £38 - £52) - How do they work out your order total or do you not actually know if you qualify for the free bottle until it comes to picking up the order and see what you have been allocated?

Hope some seasoned M&S pro can qualify from experience.

Secondly, how does the stuffed turkey crown actually work. Looking at the pictures, do you only get meat on one side of the crown with the other side being totally stuffing (If this is the case are you just getting in reality, half a crown of meat – surely not?

    Thankings you….. :)

P.S – 75 more sleeps which equates to just 11 more weekends – scary but great

I've got £20 of Thorntons' vouchers due from my surveys next week so I'm hoping to stock up on some pressies for school. Anyone know if they have any good offers there at the moment?

    They do 5 for £20

They can be bought in store.

on the subject of our little feathered friend the turkey....where do people get theres from.

I had spoke to a local farmer at a market a while a go and he quoted me £120 for a turkey (free range, kelly bronze) which for 2 adults and 1 child seemed crazy  so last year we ended up with a large crown from Iceland for approx £14?? which was more than enough. My mam got a small crown preorder in morrisons for silly money and it wasn't worth the money at all. This year we have 4 adults and 1 child so Im not sure what to do.

I also do an xmas ham either cooked in gingerbeer or cherry coke which is always yummy. Sounds odd but its gorgeous!

There is only the 3 of us , so I just get a crown thing in a tray, and a piece of beef in a tray. They only cost about £5/£6 each.

They are really quite small, but as we have both, we only have a couple of slices of each.
And there is no washing up afterwards either :j:j

I cook them on Christmas eve, slice what we will need, and put the slices in gravy, over night.

I really don't like cooking on Christmas day, so we have frozen everything. Tesco do frozen roast potatoes in goose fat which are to die for. I have to cook the whole bag as ds eats them cold. (If only he would actually eat the dinner at the table, and not hiding in his room.!!)
He loves a roast, but it is all just a bit much for him. Although for the last 2 years I have managed to get him to sit with us, by having Lottery Scratch Cards on each plate. I am the only one not to have won anything yet. He has won every year and dd also won last year.

I also get fresh veg in bags that can be steamed in the microwave, as I am dishing up.(Can't stand lukewarm veg)

We have Aunt Bessie Stuffing Balls, and Yorkshire Puddings.

I know it is all very lazy, but I would rather spend the day with the kids in the lounge than on my own in the kitchen.

EDIT - Forgot we always have 2 trays of pigs in blankets from M&S. The kids have about 6 each. They have to be M&S, as Ds can tell just by smelling them. Got some in Sainsburys one year and he wouldn't touch them.

    Hi Rebel,

If you order online, they show an estimated price on the meats that have differing weights, which is the half-way price point. If your total based on the price point is over £60 then you will qualify for the free bottle of wine. If you order online they email you a voucher for your wine before 30 November, so if you subsequently pay below £60, it won't affect your free wine. If you order instore, then you get your free wine when you place your order & pay the £20 deposit - so again the final total won't affect this. (Just to note that the final balance may go up just as it may go down.)

The weights for the stuffed meats include the stuffing. The stuffings are very tasty, but in some cases there is a fairly high proportion to meat. I used to buy the de-boned, stuffed turkeys but now buy whole turkey & separate stuffings - it goes much further for us - but just requires a bit of extra preparation on Christmas morning.

    Ellie.
  • I know it's already been asked but pleaseeeee could someone upload a photo of the primani Christmas jumpers
