I'm also planning on adding lots of natural bit in the mix like pine cones dried orange slices cranberries and holly but I think that will be mainly on the table.

Reading in a magazine places to visit for Christmas has anyone been to chatsworth at Christmas? Other recommendations were Edinburgh Lincoln and Ludlow in case anyone has been there?

    Hi Visch

I'm also planning to bring some natural foliage into the house this year. Would like to add holly and berries to the fire place, table and stairs. My question is how long do you think it would last and when should I bring it into the house?

Also regarding Lincoln I used to live there so probably qualified to give some advice. The market is magical as it is held up in the bail gate area ( castle and cathedral) - basically the historical part. Only problem is it gets stupidly busy and they have adopted a way one system so it can feel like cattle being herded around. If you don't mind crowds it's fabulous and loads and loads of Christmassy stalls selling gifts and various kinds of foods.

Holly berries are poisonous, so please be careful if you have small children or pets in the home.:xmassign:

For DS I get a a cardboard box from the local shop, Trim it to size and wrap it with xmas wrapping paper like you would a present, Then I fill it with the things and cellophane it, I also decorate it with jewel snowflakes bought from country baskets and use christmas ribbon at the top, But not everyone does that obviously. Don't concern yourself with paying out money for a basket, a papered cardboard box will do just fine. DS get's his on xmas eve morning so he can use it during the day.
    Personally I put in -

A christmas DVD to watch on xmas eve (The snowman was last years choice).
    New PJs.
A giant xmas gingerbread man (£1.50 from greggs at xmas time).
Christmas sweets (Haribo do some etc).
A santa key, So santa can get in as we don't have a chimney.
    Reindeer food.
Christmas biscuits, Such as cadbury festive friends.
    A selection box.
A christmas book to read before bed.
A game we can play together (Last year was xmas style snap from b&m , Really want the rudolph scene it this year).
    A christmas colouring set.
I also spend around £6 on a few very small toys, I go to poundland, home bargains, b&m etc and get 6 things that are all £1 or less.
A new pair of slipper socks.
A santa stop here door hanger (This year i will just re use last years, no need to buy new every year).
I also put in a few other small things, such as a pack of match attacks foot ball cards DS collects, they're only 50p and this could be adapted as they do disney cards and moshi monster ones etc?
A few random cheapy sweets from home bargains (They often have small things from 20p ish)
A new teddy bear, Depending on where from and glitches etc this can vary in size. Homebargains have fairly decent sized ones at the moment for £2.99 but I managed to get a £4 harrods bear in the sale so this year he'll have that one.

I hope I've given you some idea's? The one I did last year has LOADS of stuff in and even I was impressed with myself lol. It cost around £22 all together which was spread over time so I felt like it cost nothing actually.

Just keep your eye out for odd random cheap xmas sweets, items, books etc.
Just last week I managed to get a 6inch (ish) plush santa from home bargains for 79p, and it will look lovely in his hamper.

    HTH :)

Awh this makes me so excited to have kids so can do it myself with them although will have to wait a few years!! Although I do want to make me and bf one!! Think I might put in some new pjs for me and loungers for him!! A new DVD, a Xmas throw a bottle of wine && a few beers some choc and sweets maybe a new book for me & game for him (would like to get something we can do together but we tend to play card games & he always wins so maybe not haha)!! Obviously it's not as good as ones for the kids but it will do! Any other ideas?

Oh not sure about that. Last time it snowed bad here, I popped next door to see if my elderly neighbour needed anything, and found her in a diabetic coma, near to death. It was one of the longest days of my life.
Going at over 60 mph in the back of an ambulance on ice is no laughing matter. I get travel sick at the best of times, but that was something else._pale_

( She made a full recovery and went into a care home, which she loves):D

type norad santa into google page open from dec 1st i think and on xmas eve you can track where santa is !!last year was the 1st year we found it and where still on it long after the kids had gone to bed :)
  • So no real xmassy pressie updates, but I thought I'd share this with you anyway. We found out my OH is working a night shift on xmas eve (10.30pm - 6.30pm). With no public transport on xmas day, it looks like I have to go and pick him up. Now we've both looked at the onsies in Primark and its no an unspoken joke that I will get him a monkey one, and he'll get me a penguin one. We've decided to give these to each other as xmas eve pressie before he goes to work. Then when I go to pick him up the following morning, I'll wear mine in the car and he'll wear his on the way home. So if you see a monkey and a penguin driving around at 6.30am on Christmas day - give us a wave!

Then back to bed for a few hours!
