DGD had such a brill day today. DH and I have had a real good time sharing her special day today, topped only by a visit to DSiL who has made such amazing progress in the last two days that she is leaving ICU and joining a general ward. Wooo hoooo. I am so delighted that she is coming along so well but a little apprehensive - she has had such excellent care on the unit and now she venturing onto a big ward with over stretched staff etc.
That's amazing Nanamia, what a fighter she must be! How wonderful for you all that's she's moving in the right direction, the 'worst' is always in the back of your mind isn't it, so this must be some relief.FeistyFidget wrote: »I break up for work at 1pm and it has just occurred to me that as I can only use the car for 16 more hours I better get everything Xmas related done - including the big shop. No list, no time and I am panicking a lot.
Oh no - is there anything we can do to help? I'm at home all day so if you need us to compile a list of the usual Christmas grocery suspects or search online recipes for any ingredients, just let me know!
I had a wonderful day with my niece on Wednesday, she really is a breeze to babysit. Even though she didn't sleep much, she remained content. In my experience Chirpy, big babies are happy babies so hopefully the same is true of Franklin!
Presents are all sorted - at least the ones I'm responsible for! OH has to pick up a last few bits in town tomorrow when we pick up the turkey. He's supposed to have been making a photobook up for his parents, he got all the family photos when there was a death in the family a couple of years ago and it's been his usual pace of getting it done - i.e. it still isn't! He's revised the plan now to ensure it's ready for their wedding anniversary next year. (Or one wedding anniversary at least, not holding my breath for the next one!)
Saw Christmas with the Rat Pack last night, was brilliant! Though I was disappointed they didn't do Let It Snow, which is my absolute favourite but still very enjoyable, the atmosphere was lovely.
Got family party tomorrow, seeing my mum on Sunday, (homemade) afternoon tea with family on Monday and then HE'LL HAVE BEEN! Lots of cooking for me to do between now and then but I do love it. Christmas songs playing in the kitchen, nice glass of fizz...perfect! I'm nowhere near as glam as Nigella but I swan around as if I am this time of year - feeling is believing I say!
Hugs to everyone. Remember you work to your means, so you'll magically fit in all you need to, and anything else, doesn't matter!0 -

It's a Christmas miracle!

Morning everyone, how are you all feeling today? 4 days to go!! I have sooo much to do and getting rather stressed so just cuddling dd3 and having a cuppa before I get on.
Was in asda until half 2 this morning :eek:but got most of my shopping, just to go on Monday to get the fresh items, so annoying they only put produce out which expires on the 24th lol, and omg how expensive is christmas food?! My mum bought a turkey crown for us last week but as I'm having 11 for Xmas dinner I thought I would need another one, but naively didn't realise they were £25!! Not sure what I'm going to do.... Plus I've to get buffet food for more than 40 people for Xmas night! Argh.
Got to put my shopping away (obv fridge and freezer stuff was done when I came in) but I'm wanting to blitz and clean all my cupboards first, think it'll be quite a big job...
Then I'm going up town this afternoon to get about a million presents!! Argh can't be bothered, my back is killing and I'm really worried ill spend too much. Dh birthday is Sunday and I don't have anything for him either
Nanamania - so pleased to hear your sil will be leaving icu - it will still be a scary time for you all but to see her making progress must be fab! Thinking of you and your family.
We've had a lot of deaths recently, in our wee street alone we've had 3 (my lovely lovely next door neighbour died on Sunday Dh had to get the police to break in as we hasn't seen him for 2 days and we usually go to the shop to get him bits and bobs - he was sitting in his chair and passed peacefully, but so sad to know we were right next door and didn't know, perhaps we could have acted sooner?) lots of family seem to have passed recently too so just trying to be of comfort to everyone during this difficult time. Really should count our blessings though and stop stressing as it is so much worse for a lot of people.
No-one has given me a Yule log yet surprisingly (maiden name Yule, usually get lots of 'original' friends lol buying me Yule logs and cards telling us to have a 'cool Yule' haha.
Ok, long post sorry! Hope everyone is doing better than me!
Omo - my birthday is Feb 7th

Iceland have them from £13, if that is any better for you. They also have 2.4-4kg turkeys for £8.
Christmas still feels a long way off, as I haven't achieved much at all... The presents are wrapped [with approximately 2 exceptions] but I've not yet sorted them out into those for home and those to be delivered. None of the food shop has been done - we don't even have a turkey! - and half of the decorations are still in the loft. The intended 'spring clean' hasn't been done either. It is all so last minute.Even worse, I am in work every day [on afternoon/evening shifts], so I don't even have a day I can set aside to achieve these things. I am working until 5.30pm Christmas Eve... Was thinking of trying to do the Christmas food shop tonight - when I finish work at around 7.30pm - as I am sure things would keep until Tuesday if bought today. But, we'll see. This freelance work isn't helping - he sent me far more than I asked for [for my first batch], so I did four last night but still have an awful lot to do. Instead of doing Christmas things, I am sat here each night writing promotional material for random companies lol. The money will come in handy though, there is no denying that.

Morning everyone, I am almost at meltdown stage now after having ds1 off school so can't stay long as it's my last chance to wrap today. Haven't even finished decorating- oh dear. Need to make shopping list as well (oh, and buy it!)
Did I mention that MIL has decided they will come over on Sunday after all, but just in the morning- just when I'm trying to cook the meal that they didn't want to come to- arrgh!
Haven't been able to read all posts but I hope those suffering from the lurgy are feeling a bit better today and that stress levels are not too bad- ha ha.
Risky- Thank you so much for the soup recipe, I will definitely be trying over the holidays when things have settled down a bit. I will report back to you. I will have to be very disciplined and follow the recipe exactly (something I usually find hard). It sounds absolutely delicious. I have a recipe for a warm goat's cheese salad that
includes sweet potato- let me know if you would like it and I'll dig it out next week
xxx
Oh dear re the wrapping. I have got all my present months ago. But luckily in my family we dont really do so much wrapping. MIL does but almost everyone else just uses aluminium foil to wrap gifts. It takes any shape you want and obviously clings to itself so wraping the presents takes like 5 mins. We also all wrap presents about 10 mins before giving them out so everyone just gets stress over in those 10 mins. It works for us. Good luck0 -

Morning everyone, I'm swaying between major panic and excitement.
Did the big shop this morning, nearly cried in the bread aisle - was so busy, got nearly everything apart from salads and fresh desserts, so feel really pleased, Xmas Eve, Christmas Day sorted food wise, just a Boxing day buffett to sort out. We have friends coming over on Boxing Day, this is the first year we've really done anything, normally just veg out with the kids, so really looking forward to extending our celebrations with friends.
Downstairs has had its Xmas clean, and as this is the only place visitors will see, I think I might just throw a duster and hoover around unpstairs, the only people staying are my mam and dad, as they see us several times a week, don't feel the need to go mad and spring clean unpstairs (not that it is dirty anyway!).
Shopping at the weekend with DH and kids to get each others pressies, this is a kind of tradition, though not sure why, but we always do each others gifts just before Xmas, then come home and wrap them and put under the tree.
Am going to elf the house up tonight, Snowy (our magic Elf) will put Xmas throws on the kids as they sleep, Xmas cushions downstairs, Xmas towels in downstairs loo, green toilet blocks in all the loo's etc.
My level of excitement is growing by the hour, can't wait for 3.30 for the kids to finish school, seems sooooooooooooooooooo late this year.
Christmas hugs to everyone x0 -
Hello all! :santa2: I have been reading lately but haven't had the chance to post!
I am in the same league as some of you where I don't particularly need to feel stressed about anything but I still do! Presents are all bought, just a few more to wrap and some hampers to cellophane up but apart from that they are all done and a lot of them have now been given out. We have OH's family coming down tomorrow but we made life easier for ourselves and did the food shop online so that's all ready, just a couple of fresh bits to buy tonight on the way home. We'll have to have a general clean up/tidy up for tomorrow but it shouldn't be too bad. I didn't feel well last night and felt worse this morning, i've not been too bad since coming to work so I hope I don't get worse again when I go home as I have to get stuff done tonight for tomorrow!
Big congratulations chipychick on the birth of Franklin, I hope you all look after yourselves and enjoy your first family Christmas together.
weeclick I was thinking the other day aren't you due to go to your Snow Patrol concert soon? Has it happened?
Riskyb I think this may have been asked before but I missed the answer - how do I view your blog? I'd really like to see it after what i've heard on here.
I hope everyone who is stressing manages to get everything done - and just remember everything doesn't have to be perfect. Make sure you look after yourself too with all of this rushing around! x0
