I went to a Christmas fair today that I have been looking forward to for a fortnight (I was scoping it as a potential venue for me next year) but what a disappointment it was!
It was set in a stables courtyard, on one side there was a section for stalls , there was only about half a dozen of them there, two jewellery, one handbag, one toy, one selling Scottish tablet, and one selling laser cut shapes. (I' m sure someone posted a 'wish you a merry Christmas' wooden tree because they sold that and I thought of this forum lol). All I bought was a wooden gingerbread man and some Scottish tablet in the end:(
Other than that I have been mostly wrapping gifts - I have clocked up 10 hours over the last 3 nights and more to go........Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219. Aaw bless you Caitlyn what a lovely thing to say you've brought a tear to my eye. In a good way
thank you xxx
I bake to relax so I will make just about anything anybody fancies. Not done any for about a week. I'm planning on making frangipane mince pies which always go down a storm, I've had lots of requests for those ( I'm throwing a deaf ear incase DH NEEDS them all! Shortbread which I have to admit is a fav of mine but its great for gifts too. I've bought a set I'd seen used on a shopping channel in tkmax. It's a heart shaped cutter to cut the shortbread and an embossing sheet to print the fondant icing on the top. Can't wait to try that. Bit sickly for me with the fondant so they should be safe! Scones DH loves all year round like to have a supply in the freezer -just in case! Would like to try some Scottish tablet too (hoping its like Thorntons butter tablets) and fudge. Might not get round to the sweets til between Christmas and new year but they are on my wish list. And a very important birthday cake for DGD who will be two on Thursday :-) That lot should keep me out of mischief !
Also at the ready for as soon as DSiL is allowed food (not even allowed fluid yet tho) is her favs carrot cake and cream puffs. xxx
That is adorable tie a mouse. What a cutie, I'm finding now that mine have their own children they love to hear stories of what they used to do and compare themselves with their own girls. And as a special auntie you have such a lovely relationship and will pick up on things busy Mums n Dads miss.
Thank you again for your kind, thoughtful words they've cheered me more than you will ever know xxxThe secret of Christmas

Feisty what a week you've had:( DH to the rescue bless him he sounds like a darlingYou are setting yourself huge tasks to do you know. Be kind to yourself. If it gets done great if not you've got it to do for next year!
Emalou wow you've done so well to raise all that cash. Well done and for such a worthy cause
Pinknfluffy I want to come to yours pleassseeee it sounds so lovely and festive:) I will be good promise....
What a lovely lovely day I've hadDD who is usually so organised got in a right tizz about so little time so much to do etc and she has DGDs birthday Thursday so I packed her off with DH and a list and DGD stayed with me. Three hours later she returns a happy bunny and is now DONE (DH was less pleased he'd been sat in the car whilst she shopped!) We had a bit of lunch then she went home taking DGD with her.
Off we went to see DSiL and wow what an improvementApparently she's still very very poorly and they are unsure whether this new infection will respond to the antibiotics or she will need another operation. But she knew who were were and said- well whispered/mimed cos she's got a tracheotomy "I love you you know". Best Christmas present ever. Oh how I've missed her and she's back wooo hoooo.

So nice of you to pack your DD off to finish her shopping as she was getting in a tizzy, she sounds like me at the moment and you sound exactly like my mum! You are the same age as my mum too.
Mothers like you are so precious! xxx
I apologise in advance for waffling on! Here goes!
Well, Ive had a busy weekend! Shopping Friday morning and all day Saturday followed by dinner with my brother then had my brothers/sisters/niece/nephew over today. (had a lovely day, nephew looked adorable in his elf outfit!!) Shopping was a tad stressful, I LOVE shopping but it even beat me! :rotfl:Also managed to spend rather more than I should have even though I still havent got everything I need and I didnt even buy anything expensive. I only went in the pound shops, HB, B&M, Matalan and Primark! Its all the extras like a few hanging decorations, cards, wrapping paper, stocking fillers etc that suddenly add up! Trying not to panic though, I think Ill just about manage it!Im more panicking about all the stuff I have to do, stuff is literally everywhere in bags and boxes, I have no idea what is where and I have about 8 hampers, 14 stockings and baking to do. Plus fit in shopping, xmas concert, visiting family, haircuts....PANIC!! :rotfl:
I also had a bit of a kink in the plan as HB no longer had the 59p for 2 storage boxes which I was planning on using for my hampers, I cant even really afford any more than that but luckily I have quite a few so Ill just have to sort my stuff out to empty some!My brothers going out hamper is going in a 'Wish you were beer' beer bucket which is just perfect but I was umming and ahhing as it was £4 so my Mum bought it for me.
Im getting DS' presents from MIL/FIL and shes giving me the money and he had 4 things on his list. (after going through the Argos as he was adamant all he wanted was a red power rangers figure!) It added up to £85 (budget was £50ish) and after shopping around got it to £57, only took a few mins of scouting online! One item was only £2 discount too, if Id got it a few weeks ago I could have saved another £8 as it was half price but I didnt know DS wanted it then lol. DS will be one happy boy on Christmas day! He's also asked for fake tattoos from Santa so ordered some for 99p from ebay today only to go on BBCSHOP.com and find £2 Dr Who ones and theres a 10% off code! Had to order those too and will put the other ones in my brothers stocking. So excited, I love doing stockings!
Anyway will stop jabbering on now! xx'They only had one cow!'0 -
Oh also could not find DS christmas pyjamas anywhere so have bought a plain pyjama top and a stocking that Im going to umpick the felt character from and stitch onto the pyjamas top. Did get him two christmas slogan tops from Primark though.'They only had one cow!'0

Moneysavingmumofone you've done so well with your bargain buys. You should be very proud of yourself. What a good idea to unpick the sticking and sew back onto the pjs
Don't give yourself too much to do tho! I love stockings too, I've been collecting bits for such a long time now I've been amazed now I've sorted them out. I do one for DD, DSonIL, BBF, nearly GS, DGD,DH and two of my elderly friends. As you already kno I'm three down this year. But I've bought the bits and bobs and am taking them over to Oz in January

How lovely of him! And just in time for christmas too
Yesterday was manic to say the least! Ruined my batch of fudge (think I should of taken it off the heat a few mins earlier as its quite hard now and crumbly) Didnt have any more unsalted butter to start another batch so need to do these all this week! On saying that if the next batch doesnt work then Im giving up and buying them for thorntons lol. I made 3 choc slabs and jar of choc squares, started wrapping up hampers (started with parents first) only to find the swiss roll I had bought for all 6 hampers are now out of date (A stupid mistake, really should of checked the date before buying!) so now need to go to M&S and buy more, although BF has offered to do this for me!
Now feel like Ive taken 1 step forward 2 steps back this weekend because I now have LESS in the hampers than what I had on Saturday :rotfl:Life is what you make it.0 -
Hello!
Well what should have been a special day yeaterday turned out to be absolute carp apart from going to see 'Rise of the Guardians'. So am a bit down now. Also got DS3 off with bad cough today. That has put my wrapping plans back a bit!
Hope everyone else's wrapping is going well.
Risky- sorry haven't been back sooner, yes I'd love to try your soup recipe. I am a big squash fan! My veggie chilli is slightly different each time as I use whatever I have but the spices usually include cumin seeds, ginger, allspice, paprika and chilli.
Nanamia I think you are indeed our mother hen, in the nicest possible way. I don't know how you keep up with all the posts. xx
Kandykay- what a lovely windfall for you all.
Moneysavingmumofone- the things we do!
OMO- hope you have a restful evening now you don't have to rush back out tonight. xx
I am now going to try and stop feeling sorry for myself after yesterday and get on with decorating the tree and house as I can't wrap due to little one being off. xx* Ebay- 1 Bag a Day *0 -
Such a good idea, thank you! My favourite to date has been him saying he wants to go to tie a mouse - he means a place called Tynemouth!
Hope you get plenty of time to enjoy the run-up to Christmas Nanamia. It sounds as if you've had lots of change and challenges to cope with recently and I'm amazed you've kept such a warm and caring attitude, you are definitely a big part of the huge heart and soul of this thread!
What will you be baking? :j
Please please please will you be my nan?:) Pretty please?
I spend lots of money on almond/pistachio biscottis and cookies.
any chance you might have an easy almond cookie recipe for me to try with my mini chef and some biscotti to try for myself? I have some recipes I got from cook books etc but it is much nicer when it someone personal recipes that they have been tweaking and doing for years.
Cheers0 -
