Meeeerrryy Chriiistmaaas!! Three reindeer herds have just stampeeded through the door! :rudolf::rudolf::rudolf:
Thank you so much SnuggleBunny for the reindeer adoption tip. I can't wait to give these as early Christmas presents. What says Christmas more to children than the magical way that their presents arrive? With the weather outside so damp, cold and miserable, it now feels like to run up to Christmas has really started. :T0 -
Does anyone know how long it takes for a completed reindeer adoption to arrive? Just wondering when to give these before Christmas so that the actual adoption will arrive before the big day.0

Also bought the reindeer herd from amazon, but noticed the Robbie the reindeer trilogy for £4.99 too could be great to add alongside the reindeer adoption kit for xmas eve hampers especially if older kids in family who don't believe lolSW loss 7st 4lb

What a great idea! Might have a look at this or maybe reindeer toys / reindeer snowglobe etc. Thanks for the idea! :T0 -
These reindeers sound great but I don't have anyone to buy one for! Such a good idea though.
I managed to get a Christmas dvd boxset from Play which consists of Home Alone, Miracle on 34th Street (the new version) and Jingle All The Way for £7.19, so it works out at £2.40 a dvd! :j
I wonder if my OH will notice all these Christmas dvds appearing on the shelf??0 -

thanks to whoever posted it a couple of weeks back and alerted us! bet Amazon are spitting after they shot the price up, it dropped by £10 in a few hours today!
Go Us!!
That was me :j glad its helped you all. I think its a brilliant idea!Hi All
This weekend rather than buying xmas bits and bobs, hubby and I have been discussing things we would like to do during December.
This is based on the fact by 1st December I hope to have all presents bought, wrapped and ready to deliver (though I am making such good progress that I hope to be done by 1st Oct) and as hubby and I both work full time it would be good to have the weekends in December freed up for family things.
We have categorised it into, things we always do, things we want to do this year that we have done previously and new things to possibly try.
1) Things we always do...
Put tree up as a family with xmas music on on the 1st weekend of Dec.
Buy this years Disney bauble (usually late Oct/early Nov)
Go to the school xmas fair and spend far too much money on the homemade cake stall
Go to Mcr Xmas Market (Gluvein/bratwurst etc) then come home and all watch 'ELF'
Give the kids a hamper each on xmas eve, and stay in watching xmas movies, till teatime then go out for tea at Pizza Hut (We have suggested other places and the kids say No!)
2) Things we have done in the past that we need to do again this year.
Get DS a lego advent calendar
Make own mince pies / chocolate log etc
Go to a pantomime
Go to an outdoor xmas themed event (Gullivers World? Tatton Park?)
Have a boxing day party for all the family
3) New things to try
Book the snow room at the local ski place (to do snow angels etc)
Then I draw a complete blank and can't think of anything else, Any ideas???? We probably do, or have done previously, more than this but this is all I could think to write down.
Apologies that this is such a long rambling list. You have probably noticed I haven't put 'see santa' on the list. DD is 13 and DS in 9 so neither of them ask to see him, but he does always seem to pop up in some of the places we go anyway
A visit to Cadbury World?
Ice skating
Xscape - real snow for skiing/snowboarding
Ten pin bowling
I love the idea of the Disney bauble, am going to have to pinch the idea and do this with my lovely grand daughter :T
We always went to the panto, but since kids got older we haven't been for a few years. But this year we have booked as my brother and SIL and kids are over from Oz, I can't wait, my dad is going to ask them to give them a shout out, should be great fun!
My DS birthday is Christmas Eve so my 'tradition' is to try and arrange a party/activity that he hasn't done before! He's a teenager now so its a bit easier as he tells me what he would like, last year I paid for him and 4 friends to go out for a meal, they loved being all grown up and being alone! I booked the set meals so they didn't go mad! Luckily it was a new Mexican place near us and they had some great offers on!
My OH is a bah humbug and always has been. I've always done things with my kids but on my own, it makes me feel sad that he didn't want to join in! That's a big part of why he is going to be my ex!
I loved the school fairs, make the most of them they don't seem to happen once they are at senior schoolWe have a lovely garden centre called Notcutts and me and my parents always took my DD and DS and my lovely nan :A the kids were always allowed to choose a new decoration for the tree.
We put the tree up on the 1st Sunday in Dec with a lovely christmassy CD playing.
We always play pass the parcel on Christmas Day and have my DS birthday cake, so his grandparents (and in the past great grandparents) can share his birthday.
Have a good day, I have an unexpected day off work as have a plumbing problem (house not me!) and need to stay at home. Great to catch up.
Pix🎄The most wonderful time of the year 🎄0 -
Christmas traditions in our house (ok i say traditions DS is only 4 this year so ,.........)
1) tree up on 1st December except last year when I couldn't wait any longer and did it last weekend of November.
2) Sort out all the winter/ christmassy stories for reading:
- the night before christmas - LOTS. I can get most of the way through by rote.
- Mr and Mrs christmas (Mr men books) + they have 4 christmas specials (think they do a new one every year). christmas pantomine, night before christmas, christmas carol, 12 days of christmas........ ohhh just seen Mr Men a white Christmas don't think we have that one.
- Santa comes to Sheffield (they also do other large city's/ town. linky) so if you can't get the one you live in perhaps get one they've visted or means something to the family.
- the nativity story
also have various other stories "what a mess in winter", "the school play", "christmas in puddle lane" etc.
3) watch some christmassy films
4) baking and craft we do all year long but continue.... paperchains etc. I WILL make homemade paper/ cards this year.
5) reindeer food/ cake and beer for santa on christmas eve. It chucked it down last year IIRC and my little un threw the dust on the backdoor steps - was a nightmare to clean up.
6) trip to see Santa - I think this year we are going to book a ride with him at York Train Museum or something similar.
7) DS chooses a bauble every year too. tho not seen the disney ones.
Aims this year:
- let an elf come to stay. been looking yesterday and you can't seem to get a reasonable priced one yet.
- lego advent calender.
- order stockings and sacks with the kids names on.
- christmas eve hamper.loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:0 -
I have 2 children (dd 5 in a couple of weeks and ds 8). We usually go and see Santa; usually in Selfridges but missed out on tickets last year
We do school fayres and small local events such as story time at library ect. Have done Xmas Eve hampers for the last 2 years which they both love so will def be keeping this tradition up. Always put them in a bath and get them to wear their new pjs (from hamper) for bed and read something Xmassy. Do the biscuit/ cake (or whatever we have lol) and glass of milk for Santa and carrot for Rudloph before the kids go to bed - this was the only tradition I had growing up. Been meaning to take them out and get them 1 decoration for the last 2 years but havent managed to get round to it - hoping I will remember this year - love the thought of them saving them all and having them for their own trees when they grow up
Saying that, did buy them a tree each and loads of decs boxing day from B&Q so that kinda makes up for that. This year I really want to take them to a Panto and outdoor skating - havent before due to money but very organised at the moment and have an activity tin that Im feeding silver and gold coins so will hopefully make it. Went to Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park last year for the first time and wasnt impressed at all so wont be going back there in a hurry. Ohhh, cant wait for Xmas to come now

Hello! I too have just adopted a reindeer AND have ordered the Robbie the Reindeer trilogy... both ideas pinched from the lovely people on this thread!
I didn't really celebrate Christmas last year as my new baby niece was born 3 and a half months early in November and was in a SCBU for months. She is finally home now (after 18 operations:eek:) so it will really be a very different time for the whole family this year and I cannot wait!!!
Keep the ideas coming everybody, I love reading them all!
