Just to confirm that I got both the Quidco cashback and the O2 Open payment. It was paid into my O2 account (I did have to chivvy a bit) but very pleased with the deal .
  • Just to confirm... (Working for O2)

O2 Open codes can only be applied if handset has been bought in store.
O2 Open codes will now only apply to Refresh tariffs which is 30% off line rental.
  • I have recent experience of this. Basically if you get chatting to the in-store staff they will let slip there is a deal whereby if you are friends or family of someone who works at one of the O2 Open deal businesses you can get 30% off the airtime tariff (e.g. new iPhone 5 (16 GB), unlimited calls and texts, 1GB/month data for £31.90 per month (11.70 airtime and £20 phone) on a 24 month contract). You don't need to take a code as they have them. You only need to be a friend of a someone who works at one of the included businesses.

Above someone says the O2 Open deal is available via O2 Chat, but when I tried this first I was only offered the website deals, even though the chat person gave the impression that better deals were available by chat.

Also, beware of getting the impression that the phone and airtime are now somehow decoupled and independent so you can upgrade anytime - the two charges aren't independent when the contract is taken. The more expensive airtime tariffs still mean a cheaper phone, as always was the case.

Hi, this is a question for greenlightluke - I started an O2 contract in March this year using an O2 open code (so before the new Refresh deal came into play), and I'm sure they said some of my payments would be a lot less and that's how I'd get the £125 cashback.

However, they've all pretty much been the same so do you know when I can expect to see some benefit from this? I'm now into the 6th/7th month of the contract. Thanks for any advice you can give.
  • @LollyPop87 - Any discounts that have been applied to the contract at the latest come into effect on the 3rd month's bill.

Did you buy online or on the phone? As previously stated, O2 Open can only be applied to handsets bought in store. If it was bought in store then make a note of the name (on the top right of the contract) and query it.

The £125 acts as a credit on your bill.

I hope I have helped in some way.
  • Thanks Green Light Luke! Sorry have only just seen your reply.

LollyPop87 you may already have sorted this out, but if you look at my posts further up I did have to chivvy O2 for the discount which should have kicked in in month 3 but it was eventually paid as a lump sum credit so then I didn't pay anything until the credit ran out.

BT employees also get the 30% discount on refresh products. No good for me as I already get 30% as my friend works in an o2 store!

i just bought a iphone 5s and asked about the open o2 discount and was told by the sales rep at the time it applied to refresh tariffs only and that it had to be applied online.

I got home and was told by o2 it had to be applied in store and the colleague should have told me this

Just to confirm the iPhone 5S isn't available yet on O2 Open. It can be applied in store on online, either doesn't matter as long as it was taken out in an O2 store.
