The long road to being mortgage free!

Well done ammonite you are doing fantastic!!
Well done on the batch cooking and leaving the heating off... we may have sucummbed to putting it on for an hour or 2 last night!...
well done on the payouts too - I get very excited about free money as well! :rotfl:
and yay on early payday!0 -
Lots of yays!!!!
I'm sitting here in a fleecy dressing gown. I'm going out soon so it would be a waste to put the heating on. Seriously though, we have 2 fleece blankets downstairs and between those and the dressing gowns they keep us really warm compared to having the heating on.
I'm usually the first to have the heating on (August in 2010 oops!) but being pregnant has definitely warmed me up, coupled with the blankets and dressing gowns it has been fine. Hopefully we don't have a bleak mid-winter this year as that year we had the heating on through the night too!0 -
£10.70 spend on essential food items
Also got 4 tins of tuna for £2.99 in Home & Bargain which I must remember as the supermarket "offers" on tuna are always expensive!
Got some large Christmas gift bags...4 for £3 (enormous things) and some wine bags at 39p each.
Also got a good deal on Surf Liquid Powder, usually the best price I find is £3 for 28 washes, found it in Savers on offer for £2.80 which is brilliant so stocked up. Bought a few other bits and bobs such as 49p colgate tooth brushes etc. generally trying to stock up on bits and bobs like that while I see them on offer instead of paying a fortune in the supermarkets.
Nothing particularly mortgage related but felt I've done quite well with the money I've spent out today.0 -
Ammonite, great to see all the savings you're making:T well done..
OH keeps putting our heating on in the morning when he gets up i've noticed  so well done on keeping it off. He was sat there this morning in 3 layers and a furry blanket still complaining!!!
I'm off work to at the moment so saving £5 a day in fuel.. it's a good feeling!!
Keep up the good work xMortgage amount at 31/12/2011 £166,050 now £0 as at Sept 21 - 15yrs 4 months early.0 -

Its taken all my will power to keep it off today as aforementioned fleece dressing gown is in the wash, I might have to give in and put it on for 20 minutes, the heat stays in the house really well. I've just tried to put it on and can't work it out oops! So luckily the OH is coming home in about half an hour....just need to warm the house slightly I think as I'm freezing and need to keep baba warm!
Off for a hot bath to relax and keep warm until OH comes in!
Thanks for the encouragement guys!0 -
Mines been on all week, but like you seen the childs chest is bad it's just not worth the risk for me, half cost have 2 fleece blankets for £2.99 at the mo with free del over £10. I ordered 8 as i'll be using some for curtain linings.
Sooooo close to 10% well done
Batch cooking isn't really for us, i think it's helps i'm a sahm so can cook, nothings ever as nice microwaved imo so if i'm going to have the oven on anyway might aswell cook it fresh.DEC GC £463.67/£450

I think I'm a bit weird in that respect quintwins, I seem to prefer food that has been re-heated in a microwave, no idea why but I've always been that way :rotfl: It works for us purely because we are too tired, too hungry and too lazy when we come home at 6.15pm to start cooking a meal. When I'm off or at the weekend I'll cook from scratch a bit more to "save" my freezer goodies.
Thanks for the good wishes........I'd love to get to 10% this month but in all honesty with things we have to pay out for in the next few months, I'll be lucky to make it by the end of the year...still it all helps
I gave in and put the heating on for 20 minutes last night, it was too cold in the house not to have it on. We were bright red though after the 20 minutes it had been on. I was tempted to put it on this morning but dressing gown is sufficing at the moment and as I'm off to work shortly it seems like a waste.
Right off to write a review and get a bath before work (a short, shallow bath I might add)

I don't do shallow baths, but it's ok cause we either share a bath or hubby gets in after me, i have to be completely covered in water....i miss my electric shower it's gonna be a long few years without a shower at all!!! how did people manage without showers?
10% is still alot of money so i wouldn't be at all annoyed if it takes you til xmas to get ut, i think savinsg slow down at xmas anyway, i'm setting smaller savinsg targets in the next 2 montsh then a tiny one for dec not so we can buy pressies but so we can buy coal and nice foodnot that i have room for any food :rotfl:

A shallow bath for the morning, a deep one for the night!
You are right we have saved up 3 and a half times what I'd hoped we could save when I started out in April so just having inspiration from people here and motivation with the diary helps so much.
Thanks to unhappy_shopper reminding me about the O2 Priority Moments app and vouchers, I've used a £5 off £35 spend at M&S. My shopping came to £32 so I bought some socks for £3 and got £5 off, so five pairs of free socks and £2 off my shopping.
Then I went to the O2 shop with my, my husbands and my mum's 'sorry the network was down in July' voucher and got 2 sets of mini speakers and an in-car charger. Should have been £32.99, got it for £2.99. Obviously wouldn't have bought the speakers etc. if I hadn't had the vouchers but as they were free I thought that was pretty good! I did need the car charger and was going to buy one from eBay for £5 so I've ended up saving about £2 thanks to O2.
Also get 10% off my phone bill this month as a sorry about the network problem. That was £1.80. I'll round it up and overpay that and the savings in M&S and put £5 in the savings.
Thanks O2 Priority moments and unhappy_shopper for reminding me!
Just got the first quote for work on the house......four times more expensive than I had imagined, oh dear! We will be getting some other quotes first before we go ahead.
Got a meal out planned tonight with friends, really looking forward to it. Not very MSE but very mmmmmm!0
