Would I buy one of these laptops? No I wouldn’t, because philosophically I firmly believe you invariably get what you pay for. The cheaper it is the greater the risk that it will not last. Already buyers of this laptop have posted negative posts on the Argos ebay outlet

I guess if you’ve got £200 max, then there aren’t too many options, and to be fair to the OP is was intended as a helpful heads-up.

Unfortunately the OP's aggressive response to anyone who dares to criticise or voice a different opinion, does put folks off. Is it really necessary to be abusive/rude? Why is the OP so defensive in this and other comments he/she makes?

Others are allowed their opinion in the same way as the may have his. Can't the OP leave it at that, and permit the readers/other OPs to make up their own minds? If the OP feels he must amplify his/her opinion then why not do it factually, but politely.

Come on my friend, this is truly pathetic.

Posting a review about someone complaining that they paid more than the current price.
That is ridiculous. Not only ridiculous, but completely stupid. Since they have a 7 working day no quibble return policy, what would stop that 'reviewer' from returning the laptop and purchasing at the new lower price??
Instead they probably asked for a refund of the difference and were told that would not be possible.

I guess that you are still smarting that I refused to reveal the solution to a technical problem for you, as you are a 'professional' who would hope to make money from it.

You were also one one who advised someone to purchase a £300 Netbook when they asked for an inexpensive solution to take on holiday.

When I pointed out the £300 for a Netbook was not in line with the money saving ethos of this website, nor did it fit with the OP's request, you got a bit mad.

So here you are today, posting a completely irrelevant review in an attempt to get your own back.

    Laughable.

As to my replies..... is the word 'crap' factual when it comes to the Dual Core Celeron B800 in conjunction with 3GB of DDR RAM??

I should allow people to post utter rubbish on my thread and ignore it??

You must be joking or you are a joke. Take your pick.

It's not even the same laptop. This from another so called IT Professional. Someone pays these people for their 'work'?

Using words such as pathetic, ridiculous, stupid etc, really is exactly what I was trying to say; why can't you make your points sensibly and politely?

May I disagree with you in regards to the Ebay review? Where one sources equipment should be part of the buy decision too. Argos as a major UK retailer should really have a better track record. You may also have heard today that the group is in trouble financially?

In terms of some of your other points I'm not sure how relevant they are to anyone. As I've said to you before several times, you have your opinions, and I have mine. Shall we leave it there?

You're splitting hairs, the only differences are (i) colour and (ii) the higher spec ram which you were recommending anyway.

Definitely worth it as a second machine. What's the model number?

It's an Equium L40-17M but I forgot to mention it needs a new battery and power lead. I'm tempted by this one but may spend a little more. Off to look at what other Toshibas Argos have on offer. Thanks

If you wanted to 'leave it there', why did you post again without me even replying? It just illustrates how disingenuous you are apt to be. :)

Entirely relevant in view of your post....
    Already buyers of this laptop.....

So first of all you alluded that it had to do with buyers of the laptop I have recommended. Misleading at best.

Furthermore it was a complaint about the price being reduced after the person had purchased it.
What the hell has that to do with customer service?

The complainant had the choice of returning the machine and repurchasing. I would say that is excellent customer service.

Can they do that in your shop?

Sorry, but your post is transparent rubbish. Everyone can see that.

Still a usable spec. Just needs a Factory Restore. The Touchpad is the only tricky thing.

Keyboard, lead and battery, prolly around £70 if you wanted to do all.

As to a new laptop, I'm not sure it's worth spending more unless you have something specific in mind.
For instance if you need an HDMI output etc.

It's best to think about your pattern of usage and to go from there.

Why do you think that you would need to spend more?

Pop into a shop, such as PC World/Currys and get hands on. If you want to spend more, then you should at least have a preview, before buying online. ;)

    Back to the original topic....

Another poster has pointed out that you can purchase a 4GB RAM module for less than £15, making it up to a 5GB RAM machine whilst staying within the £200 threshold.

    4 GB RAM generic £14.49

    Crucial(Amazon) £16.77

    First option £199.48

    Second with Crucial RAM £201.76
