Wasnt having a go at the post - it's the personal comments that keep flying backwards and forwards between certain posters.....I'm looking to buy a cheap laptop for my "old" 72yr old mum and it's difficult to sift through the constant bickering on this thread. I just want the facts.

This laptop will be perfect for your Mum. I buy similar for my mother.
Used for Instant Messaging(Video and Voice), watching films and general surfing.

As you know, it's my thread. I believe in it and therefore have to defend it against mischievous posters.

You can believe in my posts.
As you have noted, despite the detractors claims, not a single one has come up with a viable alternative or have been able to explain what, if any, deficiency would likely be encountered in using the Dual Core Celeron B800 in conjunction with 3GB of DDR3 RAM.

The fact is that it is a cheap and capable laptop. One for which you would pay at least £100 more in the shop...as pointed out by one of the 'detractors'. :)

You have to ask yourself, why 2010 is still posting if his only concern was to let you know that it was a returned machine, prepared for resale(which I felt I made clear in the very first post).

    That is clear now.

The post is about an under £200 Toshiba deal. So why is he posting about considerably more expensive DELLs??

Muddying the waters is an appropriate phrase.

But to put him on ignore via your Control Panel. That will obscure his posts and leave you with the pertinent info about the laptop.

    Hi,
Thanks for the info. Looks decent spec for the money, but in all honesty 186 negatives in 1 month really puts me off and I just know with my luck I would receive one that was in 'poor' condition. Sally

from the thread on hot uk deals these are probably old store stock rather than returns

    http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/hp-pavillion-g6-purple-500gb-i3-refurb-laptop-argos-ebay-270-1207968

I have a HP desktop at home , work supplied Hp laptop and I got my daughter a Hp laptop for Uni from John lewis (2 year warranty and they would fix it at uni) , all been fine.

some of the Argos ebay stuff is crap hence their high level of bad feedback ;)

this is a higher spec machine at not much more money from the same seller £269

    500gb hd

    4gb ram

    i3 dual core 370m

and not a Toshiba ...HP's are normally ok and come with option of both maikng restore disks and a factory restore partition

The Toshiba comes with option of both making restore disks and has a factory restore partition.
Not sure what point you are trying to make here.

Spend £75 more for a better processor??

Why not start your own thread if you think that it is such a great deal. :)

This is for a sub-£200 laptop.

offering a better deal , nothing wrong with that

higher spec , more reliable machine , nothing wrong with pointing out the flaws in your deal and then after some research offering a decent alternative ;)

I would'nt like people to rush into buying something and then finding out they could get a better deal elsewhere

    ??

The Toshiba's are equally like to be 'old store stock'. :)

Now you are advertising something from Argos Outlet whilst at the same time saying some of it is crap??

    Have you clashing personalities??

The fact is that a lot of it is good and some of it won't be. If not you can return it for a no quibble refund.

We have three Toshibas in the family more than three years old...None cost more than £250 and all bought from Argos Outlet.

I wouldn't not worry about that. If you are in any way not satisfied, let them know and they will arrange a pickup and give you a full refund.
It is a no risk buy.

You are taking about Argos, so they are not going to do a midnight flit.

I writing with years of experience of Toshiba laptops and buying them from Argos Outlet.

This is not a copied post from HotDeals UK. This is my own work.

    Laptop reliability report:

Seems that your figures don't stack up. HP are the most unreliable. My niece had two and the build quality was awful.

Better deal?? Just more expensive and less reliable. :)

Apologies to anyone genuinely interested in these machines for having to wade through pages of this rubbish to get to the useful info.

Please post your questions and concerns and I will endeavour to answer them for you.

To recap; a good everyday use machine with a good battery life.
Full twelve month warranty with a no quibble seven working day return policy with any fault found within 28 days also qualifying for a refund.

You will need the RAM upgrade indicated in the original first post.
It is easily fitted, I have posted the link to the manual on this thread a couple of times.

I won't allow a few idiots to disrupt the thread, as much as they try.

Would I buy one of these laptops? No I wouldn’t, because philosophically I firmly believe you invariably get what you pay for. The cheaper it is the greater the risk that it will not last. Already buyers of this laptop have posted negative posts on the Argos ebay outlet
    Ebay - Argos

I guess if you’ve got £200 max, then there aren’t too many options, and to be fair to the OP is was intended as a helpful heads-up.

Unfortunately the OP's aggressive response to anyone who dares to criticise or voice a different opinion, does put folks off. Is it really necessary to be abusive/rude? Why is the OP so defensive in this and other comments he/she makes?

Others are allowed their opinion in the same way as the may have his. Can't the OP leave it at that, and permit the readers/other OPs to make up their own minds? If the OP feels he must amplify his/her opinion then why not do it factually, but politely.
