Let's see the feedback when someone actually buys one and upgrades the RAM.
Here I am, posting on this thread, listening to music and posting on this forum with an ATOM N270. Oops just opened Office 2007 Word and working on a document.
This with a single core CPU with a Benchmark of 303.
The laptop will be more than fine for most with the RAM upgrade.0 -
assuming the recovery media has not been done before the "refurb" as its normally only allowed once ...otherwise you are looking at a minimum of £30 for recovery media from toshiba.
Ram install do not invalidate warranty as it goesEx forum ambassador

Just to note:
- Adding the essential RAM might invalidate the warranty (have to break a seal to open?
- Windows 7 is good to have, however there's be no re-install media with this machine, you need to follw the steps on the inbuilt backup tool make to make a complete system backup to DVD or maybe a memory stick. This can be used to do the equivalent of a 'full re-install' should it ever be needed.
This is wrong.
The Toshiba Recovery Media software just creates a DVD backup of the Recovery Partition(Windows 7, Drivers and Applications)....in the case of you having to change the hard drive.
Nothing unusual there.0 -
Upgrading RAM is a standard procedure, and if the manual shows how to add RAM (I don't know about this particular one, but they usually do), then it won't invalidate the warranty.
Also, is it running 64-bit OS (I think one of the linked pages said so)?0 -

If that is/was the case, you can return it for a full refund. No need to stress or worry.
But it's not the case... as of course once the machine is taken back to Factory Settings, you can of course make another set of Recovery Media.0 -
sadly Toshibas are NOT the machines they used to be
no longer built in Japan , reliability has gone and I personally would not buy one
choose your failiure , motherboard or hard drive , graphics chips fail and hard drives fail without warning
I personally have looked at several with the above failures (and I am a regular poster on the techie part of the forum so have expertise)
They are made by the same manufacturers as most of the other laptops...in Taiwan or China. Same as Apple, Sony......
When was the last Toshiba made in Japan??0 -
still does'nt address the fundamental reliabilty question marks though
and why the "refurbs" took place in the first place ?? (early failure and return ??)
I fix/dimantle laptops on a regular basis and by FAR the Toshibas are the ones that fail mostEx forum ambassador

Yes, of course. You can upgrade to 8GB RAM.0 -

No, lack of RAM made them slow.
They have a full warranty, so no need to worry.Any problems within 28 days and you can ask for a refund.
Now if we were speaking about ADVENT....0 -
