It amazes me the amount of drivel that some people spout on here I don't care what you say Celeron processors are the cheapest of the cheap for a REASON, ok in a raw synthetic benchmark you may find the figures acceptable but real world usage - no thanks.

As for your comments about me confusing it with Celerons of the past well that's total crap as well. Sorry to say it's cheap for a reason.

Why buy a refurbished laptop to then have to immediately upgrade it? Why not just have a mooch about and find a BETTER laptop that suits your needs out of the box. There are big discounts about to kick off due to the impending Ivy Bridge architecture.

Simply put there are several very good reasons not to buy this:

RAM upgrade (ok a simple task for anyone with a bit of common sense but having the IT experience I do I know that a hefty portion of the users would not be able to do this)

Processor - OK nowhere near as bad as celerons of the past but sorry even at £200 it's CRAP

Refurbished - low spec laptop, refurbished? No thanks.

There have been plenty of really good laptop deals around recently where you got a much better spec machine for not much more. There was an HP one not long ago £100 cashback £120 trade in which made a decent spec i3 laptop around £250 delivered, it's probably not on now but there are always deals to be had.

Even at this price you'd have to be desperate or mad to buy this too many disadvantages

In fact every computer I use has a Celeron Processor.....other than the Netbook I am using; that has an ATOM processor.

The CPU on the machine advertised considerably outperforms each and every one of them.

In fact, I do have a top of the range(at the time) Toshiba laptop still sitting in it's box.

The reason why it's still there is because I don't need it, as the machines that I am using can still perform all of the tasks described in this thread.

That is the reason why I know it is you who is writing a load of drivel.

So I can comfortably state that the machine will perform well under the circumstances described and will arrive 'as new'.
If not it can be returned at not cost to the buyer.

Do you know how many morons we see in the Tech forum spouting on about their IT experience? :)

I know how the things work and I know what will work. I don't need to proclaim that I am an IT Guru to gain credibilty. :)

A excellent buy with a twelve month warranty.

I am waiting with baited breath for you to recommend something better at the price point and to explain to prospective buyers why they should pay more to complete these simple tasks.

This machine, together with the RAM upgrade(believe me that you could do it in five minutes) will be more than up to the task.

My mother used a Toshiba Vista machine with a Celeron T1600 processor for two years for just those reasons without complaint. This machine will outperform her old machine and is cheaper.

The are only a set amount of descriptions allowed on eBay. Shop return is not one of them. ;)

    Thank you for your contribution.

sadly Toshibas are NOT the machines they used to be

no longer built in Japan , reliability has gone and I personally would not buy one

choose your failiure , motherboard or hard drive , graphics chips fail and hard drives fail without warning

I personally have looked at several with the above failures (and I am a regular poster on the techie part of the forum so have expertise ;) )

    Just to note:
    - Adding the essential RAM might invalidate the warranty (have to break a seal to open?
    - Windows 7 is good to have, however there's be no re-install media with this machine, you need to follw the steps on the inbuilt backup tool make to make a complete system backup to DVD or maybe a memory stick. This can be used to do the equivalent of a 'full re-install' should it ever be needed.
