lol don't worry GR, there's nothing wrong with constructive criticism. If I remember rightly Maddie did start a thread on the subject which turned out very successful  . Asking advice on veganism is always welcome but I'd prefer people left the 'justifying your choice' (sorry can't think of a better way to put it atm :o) questions off this thread. Purely because it will only serve to water down the thread and tbh you know what it's like here sometimes, the whole thread could end up being deleted because someone thinks it's funny to take things too far.

This is no reflection on the people who ask the hot potato questions, merely a reflection on the trolls and flamers who frequent these parts.

This thread is handy for links and tips and it would be a shame if it had to be scrapped.

Hey again GSB, I don't have any kids myself but I know what you mean. Vegan bating seems to be some sort of online sport. All it does is drive some into sticking with vegan forums and not getting to mix with the general population of forums like this, which is a shame. I try to be a peaceful vegan but sometimes the wrong people get me on the wrong day :o

I daresay I will now be accused of being a "troll", a "flamer", being "defensive" or even of "vegan baiting" - but here goes !

This site is called Money-Saving Expert.Com

The OP on this thread states:

"Wasn't sure where to put this, thought here was best because it is an environmental topic too.

    *is nosy*

Btw I haven't put this thread here to debate about veganism, if you don't agree with it put yer own d@mn thread up :p"

What on earth has this to do with money saving ? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. This site is not for debating the merits of what people choose to eat, if this thread were to tell me where to buy my veg (which I like ) at a better price, great - but it doesn't.

If people wish to be Vegans, carnivores, omnivores or whatever else - that is absolutely fine by me - but stop trying to spread the word like it is a b****y religion ! A third of the posts on this thread are from one individual - who obviously has a drum to beat and a message to impart - fine - but this site IS NOT the place to do it !

There must be dozens of fora on the web dedicated to the the delights of Veganism and other beliefs - please put your posts and self-congratulatory plaudits there !

Give it a rest please !

Though this site is moneysavingexpert, MANY of the posts on these forums have nought to do with money saving... take a gander at the posts in "MoneySaving in Marriages, Relationships & Families" for example, there are a LOT that have nothing to do with money saving at all. Since all the boards are moderated, I find it highly unlikely that those threads (and this one) have slipped passed the moderators. More likely seems to be a laissez-faire attitude that allow posts that aren't related to money saving. If you start your own forums you can decide what you want posted on them, but the owner/moderators of this site seem more than happy to let topics like this stand.

I also fail to see how a thread that was started expressly to share info amongst vegans (or vegan wannabees) can be seen as "trying to spread the word like it is a b****y religion !" That is a bit like telling Christians to stop going on about the Bible when they are at a Bible study!

Live and let live, I say!

    :A

I want to move to theory. Everything works in theory.
  • Eh up Moonie - my post which is just a few above yours is about cheap vegan beer! If you are not a moderator how come you were reading the posts or did you not read all of them?
If you did read all of the them you would have known that some were about veganism and money saving. Surely if you are giving a long response it would be prudent to read the whole of a long thread first so that your response is informed....... where you are coming from really and why so angry? Lighten up duck! Perhaps you need to spend some more time with us gentle vegan beings so that our calm rubs off on you - if not just stick with the cheap vegan beer and that should sort you out!:T each to their own huh?

Thanks guys but it'd be better just to ignore certain posts. Some people have a pretty bad attitude towards vegans which they have shown on other threads, or perhaps it's just personal against me. Either way I don't rate them enough to care.

The fact that the thread has so far included; wheres the best place to buy shoes, animal friendly credit card, cheap vegan beer and home baking recipes doesn't seem to matter to some.

There are a few different subjects on this thread. I thought if we kept these subjects to one thread rather than open a vegan thread in 4 or 5 boards that people would see fit to let us have a thread, seems I was wrong. Some people are just unable to help themselves from clicking on a thread with VEGANS in the title, to then precede to complain about being preached to is just too ironic to bother with.

Umm savvy the ones I see all have wheat in them?
Sorry sleepy, nope they have a gluten free version, if you do a search for Laucke the bread machine mixes come up, but you don't use this flour in the machine, oven bake only.

I didn't like the multi grain one, the grains came out hard, but the white mix is the best wheat free near real bread I've found so far. We made little rolls out of it last night...................sooooooo nice!!! :D

Yes, I forgot to come back and say that a lovely friend send me a bag of the white flour for my birthday (I love such thoughtful pressies) and it's great stuff.

I ordered the multi grain and nearly broke a tooth! I might sieve the seeds out of the rest of it so it doesn't go to waste.

It works out good value too as you get 4 loaves out of the packet, which is a lot cheaper then store bought gluten free bread :)

Also good for poorly peeps as you just bung it in the food mixer with warm water, leave it in a warm place to rise then into the oven.

A really cheap way to jazz up BBQ corn on the cob and vegetable kebabs, is to heat in a saucepan, some Pure soya margerine, brown sugar, garlic and cayenne pepper, then drizzle the glaze over cooked food. Don't drizzle over and then cook though ;)
