RFW;
The ONLY ones it did not effect, was Tech and Media, but don't worry, eBay to care of the Tech sellers this year:
"On 3 May the final value fees for listings in some technology categories will increase from 3% to 5%. This will allow us to make further improvements to the shopping experience and help drive more buyers to the site"
Seriously you must be out of touch with what happen!
Example, collectibles, use an example value of £200, not to HIGH value item, mid low range.
Used to be: £2.62 +5.25%
Lets Mr Calc give you the figures:
Total £10.5 + £2.62 = £13.12
New fees, flat fee 10%, guess what, don't need a Mr Calc for that, gives you flat fee for every idiot to understand of £20.
That is an increase of £6.88, and you guys are crying over a £1 postage increase, are you serious? That's increase of approx. 35% in fees. (low value item)
If it was clothing, shoes or accessories, the fee is 12%, and used to be the exact same as above example. So you will have a fee of £24, an increase in fees of 45%!!!
Now ALL TECH sales, with 5% new fees, will be higher than what they had before, with exception of sales up to £29.99!!!
I would say wake up and smell the coffee guys, but to be honest from some of the peoples conclusions on these forums, I am not sure if you are even bright enough to be awake! Maths are for sure not one of your stronger sides!
I think though, it is some kind of typical British culture, to just accept whatever taxes and fees are put on top of you, just go along with it! Seriously looking at the property prices in London tells you all, paying a fortune to buy a toilet, overpriced compared to value of what you buying! Sure location location location, well no thanks! Get upset for a few pennies on postage, but ignore the real big figures!
Why you think US sellers shut up when they implemented fees on postage? They just looked at UK changes, and thought holy crap it could get really worse! Postage in the big scheme of things is nearly irrelevant, eBay would prefer sellers to give free postage, that's what they are advocating, by offering advantages of visibility if you give free postage on items.
So RFWm stop such nonsense and ignorant talk, that only a few was effected by the new eBay fees, now with last changes everybody will have been affected!0 -

I'm not sure why you would bring London property prices into it, it's a fairly silly argument, London may be the capital city but more people live outside London than in it. Just because a few people on an internet forum happened to not have the same view as you does not mean you can extrapolate that to denounce the population of the UK.
On the thread you started I said you had a point but expressed it badly by telling everyone that they were affected, that was not and is still not the case.
Just to reiterate and get back in line with this thread, almost all buyers and sellers are affected by the increase in postage, not all sellers have had as big a hike in fees as you have seen. If you wish to make a sensible argument try it without abusing someone who actually said something favourable about you and perhaps try not to insult a whole nation in the process..0 -
I lived nearly 10 years in this country, and I have NEVER seen a more obedient people to all kind of crap with regards to price increases, fee hikes, everything from tube tickets, council tax, fuel prices just to mention a few!
I just confirmed that from this May, eBays new FVF will have affected all sellers, and total effect compared to post prices would have been much higher!
You previously asked me for examples to prove my theory, I just did that at low value items, not as bad as the above £600 items, but still!!!
What about this for an idea, Mobile phones with contract has no fee, so what if I sell Mobile phone with contract which includes the value of a £3000 high value item, maybe worth looking into!0 -

I don't need to look into anything, I'm not bothered, I've told you my fees haven't gone up much or at least anything that wasn't manageable. If they did I'd stop selling on Ebay, would that be protesting enough for you?
This country has a pretty good record of protesting for various things, this site has done pretty well at several of them, bank charges spring to mind. Perhaps we just pick battles that there's a chance of winning.
On the other hand Ebay isn't the same as fuel prices or council tax, there are alternatives, if they get too expensive complain, if that doesn't work go elsewhere..0 -
Go to royal mails website and look up Prices for 2012 - PDF downloadable to your PC.
However:
2nd class LL prices = 100g 69p; 101-250g £1.10; 251g-500g £1.40; 501g-750g £1.90
2nd cl pk = 0-750g £2.20; 751g-1kg = £3.50 - so yes anyone who has a PK item that is very light currently posting at £1.33 will have a huge hike to £2.20, myself included. So for moment I will just use the stamps I got last year and this to post at current stamps rates for new increases. So for now will not be adjusting much for that item. Just sold 12 of them for £124.95 net profit, so plenty of postage included in what buyer paid me, not to worry this time. Mind you I did send 3 extras out to help cover a refund of some postage.0 -
eBay has a monoply in many ways, that's why they do what they want!
Only alternative is go your own website, use the eBay fees on google adwords instead!
By the way, my eBay fees have actually decreased, because I actively use them to advertise, not to sell!
Of course I know the whole country is not the same, spent time in Liverpool and Manchester, that's not the main point!
There is a battle brewing with eBay, as I am aware of, as not everybody at XXXX are to happy with their business practices, specially the ones that put British business in a disadvantage compared to other ones in the EU of the same industry!
However this is not something I able to talk about, or want to talk about at this moment of time. However I do predict there will be certain changes in the future, now for me personally I hope to leave the whole purple shooting star business within the next couple of years, or even earlier, if I get offered the right position of job that I am seeking!
I got a lot out of eBay over the years, at the same time they have created a massive stress for me and my family, by making such massive changes with 3 months notice!
You see this is the way eBay runs, they make you go along with their model, they make you invest in this business, because this is the best since god knows what! Than they slowly do their own secret and very unreliable market research, often trough Paypal, by blocking your account, requesting you to send them copies of invoices that shows proof of purchase for items you have sold!
This is what they did with me. My account (Paypal was blocked), it was a security check, first they requested I provide them tracking number for all the items ( normally 5 items), then for those items the proof of sales and proof of purchase, my company documents etc. Now in the aftermath this makes sense, this is when they was doing their so called "market-research", to see how much they would be able to charge the sellers, and still get away with it!
There has probably never been a more fascist business model than since the politics of the second world war.
They entrapped us all with the more you sell, the more discounts you get, better conditions etc., and than Mr Agnus decided lets milk the cow for what its worth!
But I will do the same, I know for a fact, just from 30 people who used to sell ebay are loosing from our sales £30.000 a month (if they had their way, they would have wanted £90.000 a month from us 30)
Now I know them all just advertising on eBay, and people will spend the day from Liverpool to London, to save £500 on an item in fees! Buyers talks, and buyers walk!
Now I know £360.000 in lost of fees for eBay (12 months) is just a drop in the sea, but this is just from the people I know. There will be more, much more!
Whats the use to go online, if they are more expensive than the high street, kind of defeats the whole object and purpose!0 -

Without wishing to be rude, eBayRipOff, please could you try and keep your posts on topic - I keep finding threads with great long meandering posts from you which really don't have anything to do with the subject under discussion. Thank you.:)0 -

Well said.
A lot of new people to eBay use this board and I don't want them wading through vast posts that have nothing at all to do with the original post.

thankyou , thats very helpful 'cos I'm useless at downloading pdfs!
can I ask a question - is it possible to buy specific stamps for 2nd class packets at £1.33 ? I mean could I buy a load of these and just use them after the price hike ?
a lot of my items are small packets under 100g .0 -

Sadly not, One of my ID's sells lots of small packets under 100g, but the only way is to buy individually priced stamps.
Besides, prices changed today so it is now too late, however I have held off posting since Thursday as I have 48 items going this afternoon that are cheaper for me to post now than they were last week<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0
