price increases for large letters and packets?

hi, sorry if this is in the wrong section been trying to look online but getting conflicting info.

I normally ship 2nd class packet in the 0-100g which costs £1.33 currently anyone know how much that would cost after the price hike on april 30th?

also ive seen things noted about the weight bands changing for 2nd class packets is that correct as well, ive read proposed:

2nd class packet 1-750g £2.20
751-1000 £3.50

am i right in thinking if this is the case my postal costs will go from 1.33 to 2.20!

just wondering if anyone can confirm, ive seen lots of info on actual stamps prices but not much on the large letters and packets sizes.

thanks

Ouch :( I've been avoiding looking at these new prices up until now! But looking at what hermum has posted it seems that £2.20 is right - what a huge increase for you!

I'm guessing you can't try and squash it into a large letter :rotfl:

I fear that there will be many private sellers listing on this FLW who haven't bothered looking at the new rates and may be facing huge postage costs when their stuff sells that they haven't charged.

I think you're right - no doubt there will be a few gasps of "How much?!!!" in post offices up and down the country, in the days to come...

Separate but connected, I can't easily find anything about a Parcelforce price increase - is there a new price scale being introduced alongside Royal Mail's?

    hi,

thanks for the replies and thanks so much for the link didnt manage to find that on their website, it was all about their services and how they provide such a good service hmmmmn:cool:

i wish starrybee i could squish it into a smaller package but sadly i cant.

i agree as well there will be people not reaslising not just the stamps prices have increased but they have changed the weight bandings as well.

had a look and posting something that weighs 750 g now for 2nd class would cost me £2.61 but after monday would cost £2.20 so some larger items are cheaper or less of and increase.

havent really looked into it before but is there any sort of competitors /competiton for royal mail for smaller items? i cant imagine unless i was selling bulk i would be able to make any sort of savings on items under 100g?

£2.30 for up to 750g is the best deal you'll get anywhere, you can get some cheaper rates between 750g and 1.5kg and obviously better deals after that.

Considering the price increases made the national news and there were other programmes discussing it as well as places like this and Ebay announcements, there shouldn't be too many people who don't know, but I'm sure there will be.

I've simply bought loads of self-adhesive 2nd class stamps in advance of the increase. Pay 36p each now and they'll be worth 50p each after the increase - a 40% rise in value. :)

I think I've found the answer here:
    2011 price list:
    http://www.parcelforce.com/sites/default/files/Retail%20Tariff%20Prices%20Online%20V2%20300312.pdf
    2012 price list:
    http://www.parcelforce.com/sites/default/files/Contract%20Tariff%20(April%202012)%20-%20Customer%20Service%20Guide%20-%20FINAL_0.pdf

Examples: within UK, via Parcelforce 48

    Up to 2kg: 2011: £9.67 ..........2012: £12.99 +34%
    Up to 5kg: 2011: £10.50 .........2012: £12.99 +24%
    Up to 10kg: 2011: £12.75 .......2012: £15.99 +25%

All my items will be under 10kg, so I think I'll simply add £3 to the parcelforce shipping amount previously used.

For calculating RM postage I always use this site
    http://www.seajays.org.uk/postage/index.cfm
I find it more user friendly than RMs. HTH :)
