Funny, some pennies or a pound Post increase, and it is a big issue! eBay fees increase of last year/May which works out to a much larger part, is not much for you guys, misplaced thought process I would call it, than again what do I know!

Postage increase affects nearly all buyers and sellers, the Ebay fee increase you referred to affected a small minority.

  • If you are sending something between 750g - 1kg you're better off with www.myhermes.co.uk, who have full tracking for just £3.30

Hum. I ordered something from Amazon once that used MyHermes as the courier and their online tracking stated "delivered" even though it wasn't, certainly not to me anyway.

Luckily it was Amazon and after I kicked up a fuss they sent out another item via a different courier and they had no trouble finding me - but I can imagine this happening on eBay and me putting in a calm for INR and the seller, not to mention PayPal, saying, "Well tracking states its been delivered! On your bike sunshine!" and I'd have been £200+ out of pocket.

I'd be none too impressed if eBay sellers started using these guys honestly.
Blessed are the geeks, for they shall inherit the Internet.

Ebay are reducing TRS discounts (from 20% to 10% in my case) on 1st May - I can promise you it will hurt just as much as the P.O. increase!

I've always factored TRS discount as a bonus rather than anything else, my TRS status on one account is up and down and even though it has been steady on the other accounts it's never seemed like a good idea to factor it in to any future plans.

He wasn't complaining about that though, on the other thread he was complaining about an increase in final value fees for sellers of items over £300 or £600 (can't remember which) and that everyone should be switching to selling on ebay.com, unfortunately some people disagreed with him which was not allowed;)

As for parcels up to 1.5kg I can get a decent rate where the courier is Parcelforce, works out at below £3 and no massive sending requirements, tracked, etc as per standard Parcelforce.

I've sold quite a bit overnight on my 'old' postal prices which when I come to post will be under the 'new postal prices' if I do postage via royal mail on line today but post tomorrow will I have under paid my postage? I'm just thinking I may be able to get another day of the cheaper postage!

no,because you bought the postage today
  • I am surprised there are so many bad responses to Hermes, I've been using them for a while with reasonable volumes and I've had far less problems with them than other couriers :cough: Yodel :cough:

They seem to have the same kind of reputation. I've not used Hermes but after using Yodel I wouldn't chance my business with something similar, not to mention my sanity. The fact is that some drivers will look at where the parcel is going, look at what they get paid to deliver it and not bother, or worse, make up a story that they have delivered it. Chances are that if they don't do it too often they'll keep their job.

It's the biggest advantage that Royal Mail and Parcelforce have, a full network and back up system with Post Offices, sorting offices, etc. They aren't perfect or always cheap but their success rate is better than most couriers.
