Everyone in the UK has had these calls, neither BT or Plusnet would be selling lists to scammers. It's pure coincidence. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Hell of a coincidence though - twice in two days, and nothing prior. He's never even touched a computer up until this week. Plusnet are the ONLY company he has given his name/number to, he's not even on-line yet & he's ex-directory. Sorry to sound cynical but there are always occurrences of 'information leakage' within organisations & this looks like a prima facie example. Of course, any organisation who may have issues will deny it because they would be breaking the law, but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen & only by reporting such occurrences can they be brought to the company's attention.
Incidentally I've never had one of these calls, despite being on-line for many years (with Virgin cable BB) - I was actually a bit upset that he got a call that I'd waited for ages to get - just for the fun of stringing the 'b*****ds along..0 -
Ex-directory is meaningless, scammers don't look up phone numbers in a directory. They acquire lists of millions of numbers from numerous sources
My elderly mother gets these calls, and she has never had a computer either. No free lunch, and no free laptop

It's the timescale that's the whole point - order Plusnet = scam phonecalls within days. He's now seriously thinking of not going with Plusnet solely because of this experience. If he does then I think I'll just let him share my wifi with a wireless extender and pay a nominal amount - we both win that way.
BTW Sorry if I have offended your opinion of Plusnet but first impressions count.....0 -

Yesterday he got a call from someone telling him that they had detected problems with his computer, and today he got a call from someone telling him his computer may have been hacked! Both times it was Indian sounding people & luckily he just hung up on them as I've mentioned this con to him in the past.
Now Plusnet are the only company he has given his phone number to, he has never had such calls before, his phone is ex-directory, he's never even bought anything over the phone, let alone on-line.
I phoned Plusnet & asked what was going on & their customer services rep was adamant that their T&C's say they never pass on details to outside organisations. He did say that as they were part of BT then details my be shared in that direction, but whatever, I was just interested to know if anyone else had received calls soon after signing up.
I think it's a dialler system that just rings random numbers.0 -
Plusnet appear to have been great for us - Looking forward to their fibre.0

Once one call has been answered the others flow from that so the fact there has been more than one has nothing to do with how they came to call in the first place.0 -
I have never had any probs with them or scam calls. I have got the pro add on for a fiver a month as i play online on xbox and it keeps a great connection with a ping of between 35 and 45 and download speed of 7.5mb which i think is great as i am near on a mile and a half from the exchangeCashBack earned to date - £1244-580

We're with Plusnet and have never received one of these calls. My parents are with Sky and they have received these calls. So you're definitely barking up the wrong tree with this one.0 -
To answer the OP's question, we have fibre with Plusnet and we're ridiculously happy with all aspects of the service we receive from them. Can't rate them high enough
