Plusnet - how good are they?

Currently have a broadband connection with Zen internet. It's rock solid but pricey. We are "re-appraising" our financial commitments and are looking to move from Zen. Plusnet looks a reasonable bet, but what is people's experience of
- line speeds (including traffic management at peak times)
- support service
Thanks everyone for any guidance, opinions, experience etc

I've been with Plusnet for just under two years now, and I am fully happy with them. They do traffic manage (I've never really noticed any difference tbh), here's a good guide on how they do.
Just to let you know you can buy pro add-on for £5 a month, which will cut the traffic down.0 -
I've been with them for a few years with no problems.
Customer support has been good the few times I've needed it (UK based, and you can actually talk to someone with tech knowledge rather than a script-reader).
My line speed is reasonable. They do traffic shape, but it seems to be done quite intelligently (so for example OS update downloads don't seem to be "shaped" during peak hours, while Bittorrent traffic usually is).0 -
Thanks for comments, guys. I'm particularly interested in the UK based support provided by techs who have some understanding of problems. That has to be better than an outsourced call centre with people following a menu.
Time to take the plunge, methinks.:j0 -
They're only competitive if you are on a Market 2 or 3 exchange though. The 'Value' tariff at £6.49 is very good value (with Quidco factored in) if you are a light user (10GB cap).No free lunch, and no free laptop

....why only Market 2/3? I'm with them, Value on Market 1 exchange, and as far as I can see the only cheaper option would be Primus - too many horror stories with them for me to risk switching - who is cheaper on Market 1??:)They're only competitive if you are on a Market 2 or 3 exchange though. But you cannot be paying £6.49 per month?brewerdave wrote: »....why only Market 2/3? I'm with them, Value on Market 1 exchange, and as far as I can see the only cheaper option would be Primus - too many horror stories with them for me to risk switching - who is cheaper on Market 1??:)0 -
Indeed, Value on Market 1 is £12.99pm (£6.49 for first 3 months only). No free lunch, and no free laptop

I find their forum very helpful. At least you can research your problems (You generally find someone had had a similar problem somewhere) before calling for support. Also, it helps you develop a better understanding.0 -

No, I'm currently paying £12.99 - but as I said in my first reply, the only cheaper option I've found is Primus - unless someone knows different?
I agree with Kathysboy - Plusnet forum is very helpful and regularly reviewed by their Digital Care team and others, so that problems are generally quickly resolved-or at least until Openreach have to get involved!!:eek:0 -
Just to add my bit. I helped my elderly neighbour sign up with Plusnet earlier this week. First computer and first broadband supplier. Yesterday he got a call from someone telling him that they had detected problems with his computer, and today he got a call from someone telling him his computer may have been hacked! Both times it was Indian sounding people & luckily he just hung up on them as I've mentioned this con to him in the past.
Now Plusnet are the only company he has given his phone number to, he has never had such calls before, his phone is ex-directory, he's never even bought anything over the phone, let alone on-line.
I phoned Plusnet & asked what was going on & their customer services rep was adamant that their T&C's say they never pass on details to outside organisations. He did say that as they were part of BT then details my be shared in that direction, but whatever, I was just interested to know if anyone else had received calls soon after signing up.0
