Have you handed in your application yet?

Aldi is a supermarket brand that is trying to be a 'cost leader' and attract customers with their affordable prices. This means keeping their running costs as low as possible so that they can pass savings onto customers and still make a healthy profit margin. Lidl are the most similar compeitor but ASDA and Tesco are probably who they would like to gain market share from. ASDA also try to compete on price to attract customers and Tesco's value range is their attempt to lure the most price concious customers in. Even Waitrose has recognised that the recent economic climate has meant that less customers can afford their prices but still want to shop with them because of their ethos, therefore they too have created a basics range recently.

For why you want to work in retail, think about what you've enjoyed about previous jobs and how that could apply in Aldi. Did you enjoy the satisfaction of seeing the results of your work, helping people, working with people, variety of tasks, working with a large team of people, etc.
Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!

Similarly, I can't believe you are so lacking in imagination that you have posted on here asking people to tell you what to write under "why you want a job"..

You could say that Aldi's competitors are all the other supermarkets because some people choose where to shop by the attitude of the workers. If they feel welcome whereever it is, they will come back and spread the word. So it's important to be attentive to the customers' needs and be friendly and welcoming. Businesses prosper on their reputation. And of course you'd like to be part of that etc etc.
