    Why are you doing it?
According to your previous posts it's your son who is applying for apprenticeships . Maybe he should answer the questions with his own reasons not yours ?

I am the son. Just trying to widen the net. I know about engineering, not retail.

If I just applied in that field the folks who like to bash job seekers would say I’m being"TOO PICKY".

For retail, focus on areas such as engaging with customers, enjoy a fast moving environment, daily challenges etc.

Good luck & ignore LisaW123, in this job climate just getting anything is difficult & we cant all work in our dream job so keep going.

    Thanks. That is helpful.

I was actually trying to encourage this poster to start thinking for herself. Anyone who can't be bothered to do so will never find work in this climate.

Initiative enough to come on here & ask the question though.

Beating someone with a big stick will only provide motivation for so long before resentment creeps in, perhaps your technique needs a little tweaking assuming good intentions behind it.

Oh no need to be nasty. I've never done this before.
You have never filled in an application form or thought about supermarkerts?

Logging onto a website and asking strangers to tell you what to do hardly passes for initiative.

For the 2nd question, I would put something that demonstrates that I know that although Aldi are cheap, their food is very good quality. And I'd put something that demonstrates that I know they don't just sell food! And if I hadn't ever set foot in an Aldi, I'd make damn sure I did before I sent the application form off, so that I could talk about my own experience shopping there!
Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).

    Thanks for that.

And no I haven't thought much about supermarkets in the context of working in one. Have you?

Asking for help when you are not sure what to do is using initiative, better than stumbling blindly along in the wrong direction.
