Asking for help when you are not sure what to do is using initiative, better than stumbling blindly along in the wrong direction.

For goodness sake, we are talking about a job in a supermarket here; not someone who is struggling with hexadecimal and is asking for help. Who needs help to understand that ALDI and LIDL are discount supermarkets? Who needs help to tell them WHY THEY want a job? Someone who has been spoonfed all their lives and has never taken one bit of notice of what goes on around them would be my guess.

How on earth can anyone tell the OP why they want a job? Why on earth would they ask someone to tell them this?

This is not an issue of lack of knowledge where someone might benefit from the knowledge of others, it is a lack of common sense.

OP has already posted that they dont WANT the job in a supermarket, they NEED a job. They were asking advice on how to word that a little better. Thats how I read it anyway, I guess you didnt.

Well if they NEED the job so much, they can put some effort into to getting it by taking themselves off to their local ALDI for starters. If the OP doesn't actually WANT the job, however, he will be unlikely to get it, however much he is spoonfed about what to say. I am sure there are plenty of people who would be only too happy to take a job at ALDI in the current economic climate.

Well LisaW123 I am not quite as hopeless as you seem to think as I've just got an interview with an engineering firm. :D

Still might to go for Aldi though. Eggs and baskets.

I have filled in application forms for engineering jobs. See below.

And no I haven't thought much about supermarkets in the context of working in one. Have you?

If someone asks you why do you want to work in retail you don't put 'I don't' - you put you like contact with people, helping customers, keeping busy & no day the same etc

yes I have as I have applied for a job in Boots so thought of the competition (Superdrug, loca chemists etc) & applied for a job in Primark so thought of Bon Marche, Peacocks, New Look etc.

Oh and I would never say Aldi or Lidl is cheap food as you are putting down the company, I would say it was good vaule food/products then compare them to other companies that do good deals like maybe ASDA £1 roll backs or something similar.

Initiative enough to come on here & ask the question though.

Logging onto a website and asking strangers to tell you what to do hardly passes for initiative.

Lisa - If you are going to berate someone for trying to get a job, could you at least go onto a skills workshop to learn how to quote people properly please.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

    How petty.

Good luck with that. Don't forget to prepare for your interview. I hope (and I am not being sarcastic here) that you know more about engineering than you do about supermarkets.
