I have/am being chased by Unicom for JUST short of 6 years now... we bought a business from someone but we registered as a ltd co and opened up in a different property the business seller had 2 or 3 lines with Unicom and temp had one of them directed to our mobile until he had closed down properly unfortunately he shut down told none of the utilities so the calls started Unicom have been and continue to hound me ive explained we never occupied the property the lines were installed (we had a new line fitted and have been with another supplier from the start) that I have never been their customer the phone calls ive made ive found them to be very disrespectful talking over me not listening I did not deny that calls were re directed to me but it was down to the bill payer to charge me if hed wanted to, they tried to say id made the arrangments which I pointed out I believe would have been against data protection saying so you would re direct someones phone to another phone just on asking? being honest and nothing to hide I must have given them my name and address at some point BIG MISTAKE they are directing their what I believe to be fake court documents to me personally at my home address I believe they are trying to scare me into paying as they have most likely been unable to recover anything from their ACTUAL customer british gas have also tried to recover 3k but all it took for them to go away was I am not and never was your customer and did not occupy the premises....Unicom well not proving to be so easy they now say they have submitted the claim to court not sure what to do next...0

tell them you will see them in court , they cannot produce a contract between your company and them , the debt is not yoursEx forum ambassador

Kim, try not to worry too much about the Court documents you have recieved from Unicom. A genuine Court document would come from the Court, not Unicom and it would contain a defence pack and information booklet. Also a genuine Court document would have an official Court stamp, an Issuse Date and a Claim Number. My guess is that these boxes are blank in the document you have recieved?

We have heard from people who have received letters from Unicom with the heading' Claim Form Submitted for Issue' stating that Unicom have no other choice than to submit their claim at Court but again - nothing happens.

We have never heard from anyone to say that Unicom progressed any of their threats and taken legal action against anyone - EVER0 -
It might be of interest to readers of this thread to know that Universal Utilities / Unicom registered a change of name at Company House on the 9th October 2015 and they are now known as VERSTAR LTD and KINEX.
This link provides more details about the change of name http://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.php/2015/10/unicoms-parent-company-universal-utilities-renames-to-verastar.html0 -
I avoided being tricked into a three year contract with Unicom. The contract would have ended last week. So far saved about £1,000.
Edit - please PM me for sample bills from Unicom and bills from the current supplier.0 -
A lady from Sheffield recently commenced court action against Unicom / Verastar to claim a refund of the termination fees she had paid to Unicom and also to claim compensation for the harassment she had to endure due to Unicom’s debt collection procedures. Unicom settled out of court and paid the full amount she had claimed.
BBC Radio 4 ran an item about this on their You & Yours consumer programme and it can be heard by clicking here http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b06wc6qp

I think this will be of interest to people who have been faced with demands for termination fees from Unicom.0 -

Ofcom fined Unicom £200,000 last year for mis-selling and John Healey MP raised a debate about them in the House of Commons in which he named Unicom as a ‘predatory shameful company’

This Youtube video will be of interest to all those of you who have received a Court Claim Form / Summons from Unicom / Verastar signed by Jamie Lloyd.
A former Unicom customer has uploaded a video clip on Youtube of the conversation his advocate had with Unicom to discuss a Court Claim Form he had received and this was his comment under the clip
'This debt was passed from Unicom, originally was about £45.. This was passed from debt collectors! Even despite cancelling with Unicom during the 14 day cooling off period, this was somehow put up to nearly 8 THOUSAND POUND! They sent me a claim form (drafted) claiming as such and admitted practically that A. The debt was over 6 years old and B. The "claimants solicitor" is not registered on the Law Society,

Hi.
My uncle was recently sold a mobile contract via uni over the phone. Following a pressured call he agreed to their t & c 's even though he told the caller he didn't look over them yet. Fair enough so far. A few days later another letter arrived stating a few things that had he known at the time of the call he definitely wouldn't have agreed to. This letter was to do with cancelling his current contract and the £197 termination fee payable to them which uni claimed would be refunded but actually it would be credited to his account. They also request that he contests the fee with existing supplier, which he was not asked to do before agreement and then informed that fee may have to be paid back if contract is terminated.
I see this as a breach of contract as had this new info been available no agreement would have been made.
This is a small business/sole trader, do ofcom give them more rights than larger business?
Any help appreciated thanks!

Why and how could the new provider credit what an existing provider is charging? Two seperate contracts, one has nothing to do with the other. If it wasn't a business contract he could cancel the new one within the period allowed, but business contracts are different.0
