Here we have a Black wheelie bin for rubbish, a brown wheelie bin for organic stuff, grass food etc. a black box for plastic, a green box for paper and a maroon box for glass.

Once you get in the habit of recycling its much easier.
We are a family of 4 adults and only half fill the black bin every 2 weeks when its collected. The other bin and all the boxes are emptied weekly.

I come under Birmingham City Council and our rubbish bags are collected every week on a Weds, we just leave the bags on the kerb. They are not fussed what colour the bags are.

We have 2 recycling boxes which are collected every 2 weeks, one for paper/cardboard and one for glass/tin/plastic. This alternates with a fortnightly collection of garden rubbish which you have to put in the supplied white sacks.

Luckily, I am at home on Weds to take my boxes in when they've been emptied, but a lot of people boxes end up god knows where, especially when it's windy and you often see boxes that are broken up in the road where they've been run over and stray recycling all over the place.

Its not rubish to ask for certain waste factions to be put in bags of a specific colors. It is likely that this color is used to seperate waste in the waste management system after collection.
