Cant fault my council until now. I have concerns about them planning on starting 5am collections they refuse trucks are quite noisy. There reasoning is to cut down on refuse trucks so have longer days I assume they use shifts

We have a "rule" where wheelie bins must be returned to your property within 6 hours of being emptied, otherwise we risk a "fine".

The problem is, the bins get emptied at around 10am, so they have to be in by 4pm, which is before most people get home from work. Fortunately our neighbour collects ours.

Also if you leave the wheelie bin more than 26 inches from the kerb or not directly in front of your house, it will not be collected. Yet the binmen will quite happily leave the bins goodness knows where when emptied.

And with alternate weekly collections, if your day happens to be a bank holiday, they do not come, and you have to wait a further 2 weeks before it will get emptied again. And they will not empty bins if the lid don't close.

Here in Knowsley we have 3 wheelie bins now but when we had bags for recycling they had the Council logo on them and the binmen left them free.

    .

We have three wheelie bins and one box (for newspapers). For 15 years they collected the rubbish from outside my house, then they suddenly stopped. When I rang the council, they said they didn't collect it because it was still on my property. I pointed out that the only alternative to leaving it on my property was to leave it in the road - because my "garden" is a patch of grass that goes right up to the kerb. They ended up sending out a manager who told me an "approved" spot to put it. The funny thing was, they never had any trouble picking it up from the "old" spot before they were privatised.

Ours is the same - black bags only for non-recyclables.

I'm just grateful we don't have wheelie bins as we're not limited (within reasonableness) on how much we put out. Most weeks we only have half a bag of black-bag waste but times when we've been doing DIY it's been very handy to be able to put loads out!

    "Update" (or not!)
I emailed the local councillor I've had the most to with on Tuesday afternoon & copied in the other 3.
To date I have had a brief acknowledgement from one & nothing from the main man or the others.

Oh well, it'll be a no-brainer come voting day

Is it really that big a deal? I live in Swansea and I think they do a great job organising the recycling for the most part. Thank goodness we don't have to have wheelie bins like most of the rest of the country. When I run out of council-provided black bags I just buy a roll from Home Bargains or similar. Using a black bag makes it easier for the binmen, I guess.

To introduce abitrary changes without proper notification makes it a big deal to me - I now have to store the rubbish for an extra fortnight or get it to the tip, simply because they didn't like the bag colour.

If the Swansea Council had announced the change of policy cleary it would not be a big deal!

Huh? The black (landfill), pink (plastic), green (recyclables) policy has been in place for at least 3 years. They send out a magnetic calendar to tell you which week is which. They even provide the black bags.
