Requesting PAC from Three and porting

I will be requesting my PAC code from Three shortly and wondered what happens. I know I have 30 days to use the PAC.

If I use my PAC code, will I also have to serve notice to cancel my contract with Three or is it like home broadband where the use of the MAC code also terminates the old BB contract.

Never used a PAC to port number before so unsure what correct process is.

Many thanks in advance.

Using the PAC will terminate the account - but you may still have up to a month to pay, depending on how many days notice you need to give 3, and where you are in your billing cycle etc. when the PAC is used.

I would allow yourself a decent amount of time for the phone call to Three to get the PAC code. Their retentions department can be hard work as they will try and keep you in every way possible, so you can expect to be on the phone for a good 30 to 40 minutes!

You cant give notice to leave and have a PAC Code, requesting a PAC code cancels the notice to leave.

I suspect you'll have 30 days charges in leiu of notice regardless so to minimise it try and get the PAC to happen 30 days before the contact end, as the early termination fee and lack of notice should overlap and they are should charge one. fee not two.

Thanks everyone for your responses. My Billing period runs from the 2nd to the 1st. When is the best date to use the PAC to minimise excess Billing before Three terminate my contract?

    Cheers
  • I've been trying to get a PAC from Three since last week! After the initial 45 minutes on the phone to them arguing about leaving (they are very persistent and don't appear to actually grasp what you want!) they finally agreed to generate a PAC code for me on Friday which I would receive within a few hours. All weekend I have been trying to call them and have spent literally hours on hold waiting for an answer.......I have just managed to speak to someone to be told that due to an 'unexplained technical error', my PAC code request had been cancelled so I have had to start the whole process again.........GOOD LUCK!!

:-( Doesn't bode well. I am one month from the end of my contract on the 25th May. May start the process next week. Does anyone know if I can email a request to executive.office@three.co.uk and would OFCOM allow that as the formal request for a PAC code?

This is what I posted in the Three Blog, let see that a Three Moderator has to say or whether this post gets deleted. I will post the Three official response if it comes.

For one reason or another it is time to leave Three mobile for pastures new, I have been happy with service to date but areas I now need to use phone means that I need to switch network.
Postings on Moneysavingexpert forum say that getting a PAC from customer services is extremly difficult and breaches the timelines outlined by OFCOM. Is there any other way of requesting a PAC other than dialling 333. Will an email to Executive Office email address be an alternative route as I don’t want to be put on hold for 20 minutes at a time and experience a hard sell and still not get a PAC.
    Many thanks in advance

a similar thing happened with me ,i got a pac code then a manager phoned me with offers none any good ,then the day after they phoned me with the same rubbish offers and told me that my pac code was cancelled by the manager and i would have to wait 3 days to get it reinstated because the manager was not working that weekend .
i replied that i wanted a new code generating and i used it that day to go to vodafone on a very good deal lost all trust with 3 after 5 years as a customer
  • I got my pac code in the last 2 weeks. No problems, went through 10 minutes of exceptional offers that were rubbish, then received my pac code by text message. Transferred the number to Vodafone payg, they took 2 days to do that. Now got my new deal with 3 but having trouble getting the pac code from Vodafone.

I had a few phone calls with rubbish offers and then it took me 2 LONG calls to get the PAC. The time I got it (Fri) it took 45 mins with several times being put on hold. I asked to speak to the supervisor and was put on hold for ages and then was told he was unavailable. In the end my husband took the phone off me but it still took him a further 10 mins of total insistence. You shouldn't have to wait as they can generate it immediately on their computers. After receiving the number verbally I got an immediate text with it in.
