Sadly you really need to check what courier a seller uses before you buy. I've had no end of problems with CityLink and I will not buy from anyone who uses them. This sounds like another one to avoid.

The final straw with CityLink was an item that didn't show up on the appointed day, and when I contacted them they said "we forgot to load it on the van, we'll deliver it tomorrow". I said "no you won't, because I'm going to be on holiday for a few days. Deliver it next Tuesday please". And they said, "no, we return items to the sender after 5 days". Which is exactly what they did. Muppets.

I've got a better one - waiting on my day off for a delivery from citylink of frozen food, saw the van pull in, driver walk up to door entry system, turn around and get back in his van and drive off, ten minutes later a neighbour came in and told me he had found a card with my name on it on the outside of the door entry door, it was a 25 storey block of flats

I phoned the number and they said they would attempt delivery tomorrow. I then pointed out that this would be a waste of time as 1: I would be at work, and 2: it was frozen food.

I ended up contacting the supplier demanding a refund. The driver came back after 5PM in a foul mood with 2 out of the 3 packages and handed me the sheet to sign, I asked for the other one, he said oh you want that too? Went of to get it – I then noticed a hole in one of the polystyrene containers with Doc Marten footprints on it. Sure enough the thick trog was wearing docs! I had to have a word with him.

As a Hermes courier it is disheartening to read some of these comments. I operate my round in the same way as I have run my landscaping business for the last 20 years, with the philosophy of "Communication, communication, communication"

Yes I will leave parcels in a safe place, if the customer is not available, but ALWAYS leave a calling card. I will only leave a parcel in a place that I would happily have one delivered to myself. If I can't deliver, a card is left with my mobile number, so a customer can arrange re-delivery.

The payment from Hermes is not great, however, a job is a job, and in the current financial environment, you have to make the most of it. If you put your mind to it, you can generate greater income by encouraging returns, and capturing EBAY sellers and the like...

After three months in this position I now have customers asking me which companies Hermes deliver for, so they will get me delivering.

    We're not all cowboys!

It's the same with all the delivery companies, some good drivers, some bad, some ok.

Super service here with Hermes, sending and receiving,no complaints at all.

Sometimes I wonder if 'delivered to secure location' means delivered to drivers house...

Had a £250 Asos parcel placed on my front path with tracking information saying 'on front path' when I'm on a main road, needless to say it wasn't there when I got home. Thankfully Asos replaced it, but I feel sorry for them as it wasn't a small order.

As yet there have been no attempts at delivery, no cards left etc. Either my flatmate or I were in the flat all day yesterday(which was the delivery date) and you'd do well not to hear our buzzer. Getting a bit worried however will give til this afternoon given how the weather has been (been pretty clear where I am but still...).
Wish I'd known who the courier would be before I placed the order but ASOS apparently choose the courier based on size/weight of parcel :(

And I'm still pretending my student loan doesn't exist until I earn enough that they ask for it! :p

It seems you can be lucky with your local courier ...... or not.

I still prefer RM for smaller items, and as I've said on other threads will not buy if it's a courier delivery for small to medium sized items.

A lot of people are saying they are considering switching to a courier to protect their postage star, but it might end up at the expense of their delivery star.

You get what you pay for, and the cheapest is not necessarily the best, there are other factors to consider if you want to offer a good service to your customers, who may wish to pay a bit more for a more reliable service.

Before I bought a recent item off ebay, which was to use Myhermes as the delivery method, I contacted the seller to ask if they would deliver to a different address to the one ebay have. I explained that I normally don't bid unless the sale states RM, as I'm out at work all day and RM let me pick up at the weekend.

She said yes, I got it delivered to work - everybody happy.

I believe there are options for the buyer to explore, on ebay at least.

This has been my only experience of Myhermes and it worked well. If I had not been aware of the patchy service they offer though, I may have had difficulties getting my thing.

So thank you moneysavingexpert forum :D

An easier way for you and a safer way for the seller is to merely add your work address to your PayPal account, and then choose that address for courier deliveries.

Seller retains full seller protection and you get your item delivered to the address you want .

    Thanks - I didn't know I could do that.

I have just tracked an order with Studio only to be told that it was 'delivered to porch' by Hermes. It is 1am now so I am not going outside to look but will be searching all over in the morning for my parcel. I will need to look everywhere because there wasn't even a card left and I was at home at the time it was supposed to have been delivered on Saturday, (11.40 according to the website).
I don't know why people use this company, they are rubbish. They need to be shut down. This time of year is when people rely on postal companies.
  • I ordered some goods from John Lewis in the summer. They didn't arrive, so I contacted John Lewis who told me that the goods had been delivered to my address and signed for. I assured them I hadn't received them and they most definitely weren't signed for by anyone at my address. They made no quibble and re-sent the goods. Whoever signed for my goods (I'm assuming a neighbour) got some free goods!
