Very annoyed - Parking Issues

Basically the story goes my mrs's mum and dad are getting hacked off at the moment by a guy in one of these articulated recovery trucks basically parking right near their driveway.

He's had this truck for years and has now decided to not park outside his own house which is no where near my mrs's mum and dads (at least a mile away)and start parking this huge vehicle outside their house or in very close proximity.

You can't reverse out of the drive way because you can't see what coming the other way and its now turned a pretty major road into a single track, with cars having to navigate around this truck, bear in mind its a 24 hour recovery and it obviously hasn't got much work on as its always there.

There's history with this truck too, he's been told twice by the mrs's mum to please not park there, the latest being about a 2 weeks ago.

I know I have a number of options, council, Police, burn to the ground etc

Police don't really want to know

Rung VOSA and they are "investigating" and have been for several months

Spoke to the company only to be told to "do one" and they can park wherever they want and now it seems they are doing it for fun

Any further advice gratefully received!

Tell the inlaws to reverse onto their drive and then they will be able to get out easier.

Wait until he's out in the truck, stick their own car in it's place and take to parking there for a few days/weeks until he gets the message and finds somewhere else to dump his truck? I can't imagine there's much they can do legally?

I do think it's odd that this guy would choose to park his van a mile from his own home. Is parking at that much of a premium in the area or are you exagerrating slightly?:D

As far as I know large vehicles need to have an "O" licence which has restrictions put on the owner as to where the vehicle should normally be kept. VOSA should deal with this if they are in breech of the licence. Make sure there is photographic evidence to show it is parked there regularly

I'm in agreement with Elvis86, park your parents car in that space. As for the truck being parked a distance from the truck drivers own home, is there a reason for this? Its only a theory but is he supposed to be living at that address, get the licence plate his name if poss, his discription & times etc, give the benefits hotline a call........

I think your right its not quite a mile but a fair distance!

He lives through an estate of streets and does because he can't be bothered driving his truck through the streets..... but I didn't choose his profession and it doesn't make it right

How about getting friends to make lots of prank call outs? :)

I did have other idea's, but this one just popped into my head and is by far the best/safe/legal option :D

    Maybe it's broken down? :D

Seriously, he can park it where he likes assuming its not breaking any laws which presumably it isn't as you say the police are not interested.

If its taxed and insured and not obstructing anything then theres not much you can do about it apart from giving your inlaws something to whine about. If its not the truck then it will be the extra 3p per ltr on fuel or parking charges or something else!!

If its actually obstructing the drive or view of the road which would make it unsafe to pull out then report it to the local council.

I wont burn it to the ground tho.

You could find which piece of the highway code there have disregarded and print the information off on some A4 sheets of paper and place them on all the windows when its slightly damp (dont use any glue tho). When the paper drys it will be a knightmare to get off !!!

Had this on a big american vehicle parked a round the corner that someone else done, got moved after around 6 months but it was restricting the view while turning out onto a main road.

    Good luck

VOSA say he can't park there, the operators license says he can't park there and he should have lights on the vehicle at night as its over a certain weight

But I can't seem to get anyone to enforce it

    hi stu this is correct
i would now sidestep local vosa and escalate to vosa HO in bristol they have to reply within a certain timescale too
ignore others who are laughing its not funny and of course its unsightly and probably ruining the tarmac with diesel drops too
