Evening all. Nice new thread, thanks.
Still a busy bee at home, veg all growing nicely and kids loving the land.
Big hugs to tinyshoes x
Had a wonderful day today. Got £200 of food and drink for free, every cupboard fit to bursting. Been to a retail show that happens to be only down the road and got to try some new stuff not yet on the market, mainly chocolate!!!!
Another day tomorrow where i could do with a t trolley! The companies give boxes of stuff away as they dont want the trouble of taking everything back to base so only living down the road does me lots of favours!
Got some lindt teddys for free, only 5 but hey makes me feel better about missing out on the 1p ones! Bars of rolo choc and aero orange bubbles were yummy. Was going to take pic of haul but it was embarrassing, even though it was all above board!
Met mary portas. She was reaaallllly nice and funny and threw a few arrows with wolfie and phil the power taylor.
Off to plan an attack for tomorrow!
:hello:
Hello Wool, it's good to see you popping in. Sounds like you and the family are settling in to your new home. Excellent news on the veggies and wow what a fab day you have had and you have not even had to visit Ts.0 -

Minnie-the-Minx wrote: »Or perhaps I should now become the old woman my daughter fears I will one day be:
Warning by Jenny Joseph
When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn't go, and doesn't suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we've no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick the flowers in other people's gardens
And learn to spit
You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat
And eat three pounds of sausages at a go
Or only bread and pickle for a week
And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes
But now we must have clothes that keep us dry
And pay our rent and not swear in the street
And set a good example for the children.
We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.
But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.
I love these too, they're sad though.
"Crabbit Old Woman"
By: Phyllis McCormack
What do you see, nurse, what do you see?
What are you thinking, when you look at me?
A crabbit old woman, not very wise,
Uncertain of habit, with far-away eyes,
Who dribbles her food and makes no reply
When you say in a loud voice, I do wish you'd try.
Who seems not to notice the things that you do
And forever is losing a stocking or shoe.
Who, unresisting or not; lets you do as you will
With bathing and feeding the long day to fill.
Is that what you're thinking, Is that what you see?
Then open your eyes, nurse, you're looking at me.
I'll tell you who I am as I sit here so still,
As I rise at your bidding, as I eat at your will.
I'm a small child of 10 with a father and mother,
Brothers and sisters, who loved one another-
A young girl of 16 with wings on her feet,
Dreaming that soon now a lover she'll meet,
A bride soon at 20 - my heart gives a leap,
Recalling the vows that I promised to keep.
At 25 now I have young of my own
Who need me to build a secure happy home;
A woman of 30, my young now grow fast,
Bound to each other with ties that should last;
At 40, my young sons have grown and are gone,
But my man is beside me to see I don't mourn;
At 50 once more babies play around my knee,
Again we know children, my loved one and me.
Dark days are upon me, my husband is dead,
I look at the future, I shudder with dread,
For my young are all rearing young ones of their own.
And I think of the years and the love that I've known;
I'm an old woman now and nature is cruel-
Tis her jest to make old age look like a fool.
The body is crumbled, grace and vigor depart,
There now is a stone where I once had a heart,
But inside this old carcass, a young girl still dwells,
And now and again my battered heart swells,
I remember the joy, I remember the pain,
And I'm loving and living life over again.
I think of the years all too few- gone so fast.
And accept the stark fact that nothing can last-
So open your eyes, nurse, open and see,
Not a crabbit old woman, look closer-
See Me.
A Nurse's reply "To the 'Crabbit Old Woman"
What do we see, you ask, what do we see?
Yes, we are thinking when looking at thee!
We may seem to be hard when we hurry and fuss,
But there's many of you, and too few of us.
We would like far more time to sit by you and talk,
To bathe you and feed you and help you to walk.
To hear of your lives and the things you have done;
Your childhood, your husband, your daughter, your son.
But time is against us, there's too much to do -
Patients too many, and nurses too few.
We grieve when we see you so sad and alone,
With nobody near you, no friends of your own.
We feel all your pain, and know of your fear
That nobody cares now your end is so near.
But nurses are people with feelings as well,
And when we're together you'll often hear tell
Of the dearest old Gran in the very end bed,
And the lovely old Dad, and the things that he said,
We speak with compassion and love, and feel sad
When we think of your lives and the joy that you've had,
When the time has arrived for you to depart,
You leave us behind with an ache in our heart.
When you sleep the long sleep, no more worry or care,
There are other old people, and we must be there.
So please understand if we hurry and fuss -
There are many of you,
And so few of us.
The poem was found with the possessions of an old lady who died in the geriatric ward of a hospital. It is so appropriate for all nursing personnel, families, volunteers and all who come in contact with the elderly to read. At times we all lose patience with the elderly. This should help us to have more sympathy and understanding of all residents.Sealed Pot Challenge No 9 516 target £250

Evening all' just caught up......love to the 3dogs family and hugs to all.
Re the Tesco guy, I think there is an element of truth in what he says as I have lingered on a sunday well after closing and watched a few staff appear with things that never made the reduction shelf but are dirt cheap.
In the meat dept I have seen one lady throwing items under her trolley and when challenged she said it was waste but I wasn't convinced and she growls at me now!!
My electrical dept was the worst as they openely admitted they had spent days scanning the entire contents of the stock room during the mad price reductions last year.
The manager of that department said that if there had been anything cheap the staff would have had it already and laughed!!
Really must try to get off to bed as had a harrowing day supporting a relative who is about to be evicted from her family (council) home.
We spent a good few hours at the local council and a good few tears but they will not budge as it may set a precedent.
Such a shame as their family home for 37 years.
Anyway sorry for the rant, hope all get plenty of rest ready for the T rewards we all deserve.0 -
Thanks 3Dogs, consultant could not guarantee that it will help with the pain relief this time, in the past they were very confident it would but they have to leave the area well alone on her spine where it has already had treatment before. But at least it has been offered, she has already had a phone call for the planning appointment on friday. She is very sleepy today, think she is trying to block things out.
How is Alan, missed your reports over the weekend.
Alan is fine. He told the consultant today as we entered that he was a fraud and was only using the crutches for effect/sympathy but doc wouldn't have any of it, saying he was certainly no fraud, after what he'd been through he was amazed he was on his feet  He did have a fuzzy spell the other day, went all shakey and felt rough, but was ok after a nap. Doc today said he felt that this was still trauma from the operation he went through
I can understand your Mum being sleepy as her body uses this to block out the facts. At least with further treatment they are buying her more timeMr 3Dogs 3-7-12

Thanks to op weddingfunds yesterday, I have just picked up 3 Corsodyl toothpastes from Boots for the price of 1, £4.95, very happy
Glad it worked for you too. Was a bit worried that it may have been a check out operator problem. I might see if it works on normal toothpaste tomorrow. It is a great saving if you use the corsodyl.
Got my price check back and got £2.58 :j The l'oreal cleansing wipes are £1 cheaper in asda as i bought 2 that is where my main saving came from. yaaaayyyy first decent price check i have had.£5 a day = £155/£150 for Sept challenge :j
£5 a day Oct challenge = £19.12 / £1550 -
Off to bed for me now so will wish you all goodnight - sleep well

I think it is amazing from your posts how Alan is coping. I have to keep on to mum to have a lie down and nap each day, I'm getting quite good at it if you need me to remind Alan from time to time.
Just caught up and read your fantastic news about the car, that is so quick and brilliant you will be able to get to see your friends. :T0
