My old bedroom carpet has gone to Christies to be auctioned off - hopefully it will sell for slightly more money than Happy Chappy's shoes :rotfl:

Evening all
Hope you are all well, haven't checked in properly for days/week ?? so if any one could possibly fill me in with whats good at the moment i would really appreciate it.
I would like to say a big THANK YOU :j:j:j:j for all your best wishes and pm's on here and on FB. We had my Father in Laws funeral on monday, im just so glad its all over with now. Nearly didn't get there due to the flooding - a journey that would normally take 10-15 minutes maximum ended up with me taking a 12 mile detour and took me nearly 50 minutes to get there, luckily we didn't have a hearse to carry us in or else we would have missed it all together, it was a bit like a scene out of a carry on film - going through fields and what to me at the time looked like rivers, but were just most probably fast running water running down the roads. My OH was in permanent contact with the funeral director on his mobile throughout our journey - but the crux of it was they would have to carry on without us if we couldn't get there as the crem was fully booked for the day. Have never driven so fast in all my life (not a good thing i know - but just needed to get there) i now know what it feels like to aquaplane in a car and something i definitely don't want to experience ever again!! Every one else was travelling from the other direction just me and OH from our little town. Was told to pull up straight behind the hearse when we got there - just 8 minutes late - me being dumb did just that pulled up straight behind the hearse and went to run in only to be called back as FIL was still in the back of the hearse - and they were unable to get him out as i had parked too close:eek::eek::eek: The funeral started with "I am a cider drinker" by the Wurzels - all the songs picked out by FIL before he died and then a recording of my FIL singing "the northern lights of old aberdeen" which he had sung at mine and OH's wedding, it was a song his dad use to sing to him when he was a boy and he also sang it to my husband when he was a lad so meant a great deal to him and us. Due to us being late i didn't have time to say my few words and we had to miss the hymn out. The vicar was amazing and told Mikes life story warts and all and had us all laughing and crying at the same time. The funeral finished with "Drink up ye cider" another Wurzels song, so all in all a fitting tribute to him.
We had a brilliant day - lots of people we hadn't seen for 10 years or so turned up to pay their respects to Mike. We all had a good drink and lots to eat but sadly it ended with a fight breaking out in the pub, so i ended up jumping in between them and managed to take a whack - luckily im made of strong stuff and didn't get too badly marked - but OH was totally peed off and took himself off on his own for a while to calm down, i managed to find him an hour or so later and took him home. I think FIL would have laughed as it was like a scene out of the OK Coral. Just glad its all over with now - i feel absolutely shattered and drained.
A note of warning to other people Please, Please, Please!!!!! if at all possible make sure that you have in place a funeral plan or a life insurance policy - it doesn't need to be for loads of money but enough to pay for the funeral costs - we thought FIL had an insurance policy as we had found one in amongst his belongings - but he hadn't paid it for over two years so we now have to find a few thousand pounds which was a bit of a shock to the system, which you don't really need when you are grieving.
Due to trying to do the funeral on a shoestring, i did the families floral tributes myself and managed to save over £250 - some people might have said i was tight, but i took great delight in doing them for him and im sure he would have been proud of me and my MSE ways.
My OH has never called his dad, "Dad" always Ozzie from a young age so thats how we decided to do his flowers from us.
Bestie i know its your DD's birthday today as put it on my computer to remind me but as i haven't checked in for a few days i totally forgot - so Sorry, really hope all went well and you had a great day.
Hugs and kisses to all that need them - and it feels great to be back xxxVery proud to be Strip club member No 430 -
