I'm sorry but I havn't got a clue what you are on about 'pre-reg'?

My current V5C shows 'Previous Registered Keepers = NONE'. The car was registered to me, not the dealer who sold it. Thats how its always been from my dozen or so experiences.

So when I sell my car, I can confidently advertise it as having only 'One Owner'. In the OP's case, if the car was advertised as having one owner, then the V5C should say the same as mine as far as previous keepers are concerned. I suppose there can be a bit of confusion if the seller bought the car as an ex-demmo, then it would indeed show the original selling dealer as the previous keeper.

    pre registered car
dealers buy new cars, then sell them on with discount
so whilst its a new car,it has the dealer as first owner.

Well that would make it the same scenario as an ex-demmo wouldn't it? In any event, I think with the V5C showing 3 previous keepers needs some explaining by the seller.

Having said that, it's something I would of spotted and clarified before buying it. Dosn't mean that the OP isn't entitled to an explanation though.

Yes I know why they do it but if the car is already registered then it isn't new to a potential buyer because it has a previous owner; the dealer. Exactly the same applies if it were a demo... the only difference is that the 'new' car will have only delivery mileage only on it unless it has been used as a demo of course.

A lot of unhelpful people on here simply berating the OP. I think he knows he did wrong, he doesn't need a loads of sanctamonious people telling him again.

It isn't legal for the seller to withold or misrepresent the car. You seem to have paid top end money for it too.

That said, if it is in good nick, has the FSH etc and apart from the fact it needs brake discs (worth seeing where the MOT was done just in case it was Kwik Fit or something touting for more work) and you are generally happy with it, it might be more trouble than it is worth.

Ask them and see what they say, I don't think you can do much more.

Thought the registration document referred to registered keepers not necessarily owners.

Whatever a pre-registerd vehicle with nominal delivery mileage is a new vehicle, the plate is simply a registration process. No doubt those who buy one are quite happy to pocket the discount now and not worry so much about a slight lowering of residuals.

While veering from the OP, the nonsense that people buy second hand cars, whether they are badged as management, pre-reg, demos or whatever, at not enough discount, only helps the manufacturer maintain a token retail new price-list and preserve the volume of cars being churned out. Once someone else has had their mitts on it, manufacturer, dealer or original buyer who couldn't put up with the faults, it is a second hand car and pay accordingly!

As for the number of owners shown on a V5C::
Original registration to the Lady - keeper No 1.
The Lady changes to a private plate - keeper No 2.
The Lady puts original plate back on - keeper No 3.
You sure about that?No matter how many reg changes,it still has just the 1 owner. It's never done that for me over the years.
