If the police pull you and its not showing as taxed or insured, They will attempt to contact the insurance.
If they cant get through or they dont say your insured they tow the car. If its just no tax you will get fined.

If they don't get through they should give you the benefit of the doubt.0 -

They won't though. They must establish that the driver is insured to drive the car, it's as black and white as that. Without confirmation or proof, there is only one set procedure now and that is to seize the car.PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. In order to avoid this problem occurring in the future, best to either:
1) buy 6 months road tax now, or
2) buy a short-term insurance policy then once this has run its course purchase an annual policy
In this way the insurance renewal date will not correspond with the road tax date.0 -
Don't all rush at once to call me silly.:D But if the tax expires on the 30th april and the insurance on the 1st of May, why do they not allow you to tax it? I can see if both were the same day.0

My thoughts too, if the OP went down to the post office today and bought the tax would they look that closely at the current certificate.
The car's insured at the moment, will they refuse to tax it if they notice insurance expires a day after the tax would begin?0
