Really?? Why does it matter who my insurers are?

There are 6 replies to my op and so far the only one with any common sense is harveybobbles and neilmcl. Thanks for that, but even a written one probably won't arrive in time now. I suppose I can take some of the responsibility for that, however a new certificate should probably have been issued when I updated the cover from renewal 2 weeks ago. This hasn't happened, so now I'm looking for advice, silly me to think this forum did what it said on the tin.

this is a moneysaving forum and ive asked you twice to give insurer details because theres a few scams doing the rounds
if you cant be bothered giving details then its your loss not mine

What happens if you get a producer before you get your certificate? If the MID isn't updated then you will come up on a police ANPR system which means you could end up with your car getting seized. Never heard of an insurance co not providing a certificate before.

    Something not right here.

I still won't name names. It's a large insurance company, I've been insured with them for the past 4 years, so it's definitely not a scam. There just seems to be an IT issue this year with producing the certificate. And as I said previously, it is the renewal of my current policy not a new one.

As for ANPR it can be solved by a phone call. If it gets to the end of April without me receiving my certificate, I'll sorn the car, so that won't be an issue.

It's not that they're not producing a certificate, they can't even print one to send it by post or email due to the IT issue they're experiencing.

No doub't then your insurers will compensate you for the inconvenience. Personally, I would be changing insurers.

With respect, that's not your problem. But it could lead to a problem for you in a week from now. Also, what if the police cannot get through on the phone?

Well I am slightly disappointed that my post didn't rate as "common sense"...

Can you ask your insurers make an extra special effort in the circumstances to update the MID pdq?

After all, it is their fault.
But never mind... I'll get over it. :D

I apologise. Scrolling too quickly on a tablet. :embarasse

Too small a screen and getting late. Starting to go a bit cross eyed.

Going to take a stab in the dark here and wonder if the name starts with "e" and ends in "carinsurance.co.uk"?

Just had a temp policy over the weekend with them to borrow a tow car and collect a boat. Paid last Wednesday for the policy to start on Friday and nothing happened by Thursday afternoon (wasn't showing as paid at their end despite havinf the online receipt details). An email got an automated reply saying that they were very busy and would try to answer within 3 days, or I could call their £1.02 a minute helpline (they claim the cost is to encourage you to use email - great if the email department is working!) In fact, I've just had an email back from them confirming that the policy was incepted on time - not much use seeing as it expires at 7am tomorrow :D

Anyway, on Thursday I looked them up on the Financial Ombusdman's site, which gives a direct email addy for their complaints handler (and an 0872 number rather than the 09xx one). One email to there and the policy was activated and accessible BUT when I tried to download it again I couldn't log in.

If it sounds like the same company then PM me and I'll send you the direct complaints email addy - there's almost certainly something they can do, even if the first-defence-monkeys say not :)

You have a week left until you need to tax your car. Be patient. If the company cannot resolve their problem in this time ask them to provide a cover note by post.
