Insurance Certificate & Road Tax

Hi All,

Please move if in the wrong section.

I'm hoping someone can help out here.

My road tax is due at the end of this month. Car insurance is due for renewal on 1st May. I've had my renewal and accepted it, however, my insurance company are unable to provide me with an updated certificate and this means I'll be unable to tax my car.

They're saying that there's a system issue which they've reported to their IT dept, but this leaves me in a predicament. I can't tax online as MID isn't updated yet to show that the car is insured from the renewal date, the automated phone system for DVLA says the same and I can't tax at the P.O. because I don't have a certificate.

What's my next step? Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Ruth

Why can't your insurer provide you with a 'updated' certificate? Very odd.

Can you ask your insurers make an extra special effort in the circumstances to update the MID pdq?

After all, it is their fault.

They're saying that there's a system issue and, although I'm insured for the coming year, they're unable to produce the certificate due to the system error.

I'm not sure that the MID can be manually updated prior to the inception of a policy, but maybe someone can clear this up for me.

Who's your insurer? Seems very odd that you can't get a certificate before the end of the month.

At this stage, I would prefer not to say. It's an online policy, which I can't even access at the moment. Usually this is not an issue, because the certificate can be emailed, but due to this error with their software they are unable to do it this time.

At this rate I'll have to sorn the car and wait for the certificate to be made available or MID to be updated after the 1st so I can tax online.

As I said previously, I would prefer not to name names.

I have 3 options to tax my car and at the moment none of these are available to me. I was hoping somebody might have a solution to the situation I've found myself in.

Really?? Why does it matter who my insurers are?

There are 6 replies to my op and so far the only one with any common sense is harveybobbles and neilmcl. Thanks for that, but even a written one probably won't arrive in time now. I suppose I can take some of the responsibility for that, however a new certificate should probably have been issued when I updated the cover from renewal 2 weeks ago. This hasn't happened, so now I'm looking for advice, silly me to think this forum did what it said on the tin.
